Free Music Notes for Let It BeFree Music Review: Worth a second listen Hit: 4 StarsBy far the Beatles' least popular album. I, however, consider it among their best. It beats the White Album, that's for sure!
Why so many people positively hate this album is beyond me. I actually put it fourth on my Beatle favorite list (Behind Abbey Road, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper). Most Beatles fans (me included) speak of classics Get Back and Let It Be, the song that is, in hushed, reverent tones. And there's plenty of buried treasure here, like John's nonsensical Dig a Pony, George's religous commentary song I Me Mine (which beats the version on LIB Naked), I've Got a Feeling, and One After 909, actually among one of the first songs the group recorded. How it stayed in the vaults so long is beyond me, it would've fit well on A Hard Day's Night. Then there's Lennon's dreamy Across the Universe. And let's not forget the brilliant throwaway Dig It, which really puts a smile on your face!
However, there are stinkers. More specifically, Maggie Mae...why this stupid Liverpool ditty was recorded is beyond me. Sure, it would've been perfect on an Anthology or one of Lennon's solo albums, and it does fit in fairly nicely on an album like this, but it's just not all that good. Then theres one of the more popular tunes: the Long and Winding Road. Spector had done a good production job with I Me Mine and Across the Universe (And a good job in general), but why was Road recorded with all those strings and that choir? It sucks the life out of the song, especially compared to how efficiantly the orchestra is used on the aforementioned tracks.
So give it a second listen, you just might like it!
Free Music Review: A Good one Hit: 4 StarsMy seventh favirote album from the Fab four is Let it Be. Let it Be is my favirote song of all the Beatle songs Long and winding road is great and so is one after 909 one of there older numbers which finally got recorded. This was the album where Yoko just was there to much and it showed because they broke up after finishing this album in January 1970. GodBless

Free Music Review: GET BACK! Hit: 3 StarsA HODGEPODGE OF MEDIOCRITY. SOME GREAT SONGS SURROUNDED BY LEFTOVERS AND INCOMPLETE NOODLINGS (MORE OF THE LATTER THAN THE FORMER). I KNOW, I KNOW PEOPLE WILL GIVE THE BEATLES 5 STAR REVIEWS IF THEY FARTED ON TAPE, BUT I'M NOT ONE OF THEM. AN AVERAGE EFFORT. GO GET ABBEY ROAD AND RUBBER SOUL.
Free Music Review: I DIG IT. Hit: 5 Stars
LET IT BE in my opinion is one of the better BEATLE albums. Its an easy album to listen to. I don't know why people would knock on it, other than LONG AND WINDING ROAD. I can't stand that song, one of the worst.
HOWEVER as far as the rest goes; I have the vinyl from 1970. On the back it reads something like "This is a new phase BEATLE album." Maybe thats what it was, however I think it was just marketing. I'm pretty sure the Beatles were aware that this was the LAST phase. They originally didn't want to even release this album.
PHIL SPECTOR was hired to take the tapes, actually recorded for a film LET IT BE, and make them into an album. What you get is a very different sounding BEATLES. A new phase? Whatever, its still good. I like this album more than others for sure. Its earthy, bluesy, a little more raw. At least not as polished as everything else.
TWO OF US acoustic guitar and harmonies between John and Paul, nice. I DIG A PONY is a little strange, but cool, garage/beatle feeling. ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is a great song, one of Johns best hippie songs, I ME MINE is one of Georges best, DIG IT and MAGGIE MAY are just some juvenile kiddery that surround the title track. This is all good to me, I enjoy hearing them in the studio goofing around, and chattin'. You get a lot of that here. The goofin won't be found on LET IT BE NAKED the new version of this album. Anyway... I GOT A FEELING is one of the strongest tracks here, very good, ONE AFTER 909 is one of my faves. A raw sounding recording of a song these guys used to mess around with before they were big. There are much earlier recordings of this on ANTHOLOGY ONE. This one rocks out though.
LONG AND WINDING is rubbish as far as I'm concerned. It was a hit single though so you might like it. The last two are the strongest cuts, FOR YOU BLUE, a nice bluesy one from George and the country style GET BACK, which was recorded on top of a rooftop in front of a bunch of people. A "live" performance, that fans had been waiting four years for, it was a spur of the moment thing which made it huge news in the day. At the end John says "Thank you and I hope we passed the audition," and everybody laughs and laughs. This closed the door on THE BEATLES for good. Let it be, was the message. One of the best in the BEATLES back log. Dig it.
