Free Music Notes for Live at the BBCFree Music Review: The Beatles: The Beatles Live At The BBC (1994) Hit: 5 Stars In 1994, The Beatles released their 29th album entitled, LIVE AT THE BBC. I was not too thrilled with this album because most of the songs on this double-disc album are songs, which are all peformed live, that were not The Beatles'; songs that I've disliked or hated from day one. Some of the songs on here are to my liking, and there are twenty-five songs on here that owned by The Beatles.

Everytime I hear this song's title, I think of that one line in Barry Manilow's classic, "Copacabana (At The Copa)". I know, I know; I should not be comparing the likes of Barry Manilow to the legendary Beatles, so strike my last statement. Not a bad song.

That's a lot of songs. This album is not very well to do, since most of the songs on here are not The Beatles', but there are 25 great Beatles songs, so go on a head and buy a copy of THE BEATLES LIVE AT THE BBC.
Free Music Review: great cds Hit: 4 Starsok so the thing is, if you like the beatles early days, such as everything up to the help album, you will absolutely love this! I am more of a later days fan, but this is a must have if you are a beatles fan. There is a lot of commentary, but theres even more music. If you only listen to the later days theres pretty much none of that in this, but its still a great cd set. I recommend this highly!
ps the only reason i put 4 stars is because there are no later days songs on it, and i happen to be a later days fan...:) its still great tho, an early days fan would give it 5 stars
Free Music Review: Dozens of electrifying performances! Hit: 5 StarsThese two discs feature live-in-the-studio recordings made by The Beatles for BBC Radio between 1962 and 1965.
Over half of these 56 songs are covers, many of which were never officially released, and it's a real treat to have this often-bootlegged material available and generally sounding very good. And the lavish 46-page booklet features complete recording information, pictures, and essays by Derek Taylor and producer Kevin Howlett.
The Beatles do their best to live up to their happy-go-lucky images on a number of non-musical "soundbytes", and Paul McCartney gets to sing a couple of too-cute pop songs, but the majority of this material is simply magnificent. John Lennon sings a tough rock n' roll-rendition of Ray Charles' "I Got A Woman", McCartney rips loose on electrifying versions of "Lucille" and "I Saw Her Standing There", and George Harrison does a credible Chuck Berry on "Roll Over Beethoven".
A couple of Arthur Alexander-covers are equally great, and Lennon performs a wonderfully tough, confident reading of "A Shot Of Rhythm & Blues" and tears through a great, punchy "Dizzy Miss Lizzy".
Their own songs sound magnificent as well. A driving "A Hard Day's Night", the clanging, circular guitar riff of "Ticket To Ride" ringing out...Well, you can check out the track list for youself.
This is a delightful 2hrs+ of music. The Beatles give it their all, and you can hear what a terrific little rock n' roll combo they were when they could actually hear each other playing!
Very highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Welcome back, memories of too long ago Hit: 4 StarsUnlike many of the reviewers here, I hear these broadcasts live - I may not have heard them all, but certainly a good number. Sometimes I would hear them at our home near Leeds, but many weekends were spent in Fylingthorpe, near Whitby in Yorkshire, and the radio was kept in the corner of the sitting room. If my memory serves me correctly some of the programmes were broadcast on Saturdays about 4 pm, and I would make sure that I was home to listen to them, and if that meant cutting short my walk with the dog along Middlewood Lane, so be it . I was fourteen years old at the time and I would plonk myself down, and be taken out of myself, an otherwise quiet and introspective boy. I certainly had heard Elvis Presley, and other rock stars by hiding the radio and listening to Luxembourg. But none of that music really caught my attention, until the Beatles came along. The music was as just so exciting and exhilarating. There was something here that really captured my imagination, and unlike some others, I really enjoyed the Beatles music more in their earlier days. I recall trying to tell my parents, they are just so good, don't you think they're the best, the best band in the world, Mum? My mother, who was brought up all over the world, and lived in Vienna and could sing operetta beautifully, was a bit uncomprehending. Each new Beatles song would be awaited with the most extreme longing, and I was never disappointed - a Hard Day's Night was a musical revolution and a revelation for me. Whilst later, in my student days, I recognised the new directions of Sergent Peppers, and enjoyed it, it's the earlier albums that still make me want to get up and dance, and twist and shout. Listening to these tracks is to take me back to another age, and a small boy just beginning to try to grow up. I have been trying every since.
Free Music Review: A Bunch of Rowdy English Lads Hit: 4 StarsThis marvelous collection of music is from radio programs the Beatles made for the BBC. The span of musical styles is interesting and informative for those interested in the early days of the Beatles. The Beatles tackle covers of songs made famous by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and a host of others. The sound is often unrefined, raw, and yet very good. The few weak tracks are more than offset by the power of a dynamic and talented group still headed into their peak years as artists and performers.
I was surprised that much of this music is still rock and roll rather than the incredible pop that would soon be their standard. Admittedly the era from 1963 to 1965 was still the heart of the rock and roll era, and so that should have been expected, but it seems that the individual members liked the faster and perhaps often more fun music.
Included amongst the 69 tracks are interviews, introductions and other miscellaneous comments, expanding the scope of this two disc collection. In one track, "Set Fire to that Lot," we hear Ringo do a very funny introduction to "Matchbox." The Beatles are just having fun. Another track, "Love These Goon Shows!" has John playing with the announcer and then taking over the introduction to "I Got to Find My Baby."
There is a combination of songs penned by the Beatles and by others, but the emphasis in this collection is songs by others. It is enjoyable to hear how the Beatles interpret the array of music that extends into country, blues, and rock and roll.
The question is whether a typical person would like this CD. Casual fans and younger fans who care little for early 60s music will probably dislike it. Fans of early 60s music will probably like it even if they do not care for the Beatles. In any case, the quality is that of music recorded for a variety of radio shows, and thus audiophiles should probably avoid this one. I would say that Beatles fans will enjoy it very much, and I recommend this CD to them.
