Free Music Notes for Love (CD + Audio DVD)Free Music Review: Surround yourself with the Beatles! Hit: 5 Stars
For anyone who's a serious die-hard Beatles fan who thought they heard 'every little thing' the group ever did (the hours of 'Get Back' bootlegs, the mono 'White Album', all the 'rarities', Anthologies, and all the original LPs then CDs) will be amazed and impressed at what Sir George Martin & son did for 'Love' -- it must be heard, especially in 5.1 surround sound, to be believed. The original idea that George Harrison and Guy Laliberte (founder of Cirque du Soleil) to make a soundscape of Beatles music for a CDS show has been wonderfully realized. Songs we all heard for decades and hundreds of times over sound new again -- more so, the 'mash-up' concept literally re-invents the songs -- hearing 'Mr Kite!/She's So Heavy/Helter Skelter' yesterday for the first time was astounding -- the riff of 'Hey Bulldog' that makes a brief appearance in 'Lady Madonna', the string arrangment put to the demo of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', the newly remastered and remixed 'I am the Walrus' (finally!) -- it's a new day for Beatles fans. Some might view the Beatles' catalog as a sacred cow that should remain fixed and 'as was, as always should be' as they recorded it, and not be 'mashed-up' (all the superimposing of parts of one track onto another, time-shifting and altering the recordings to match tempos and keys). Understandable, since how indeed can really improve upon what they did way back when? But I very much enjoy 'Love' -- and appreciate that in with today's modern recording (Pro Tools was among the credits), Martin & son were able to present the timeless and beloved Beatles tracks in a new light, while making it clear how incredibly gifted the Beatles were -- you can hear all the instruments, vocals, sound effects better than ever before. While 'Love' might not be the best choice for a casual fan (one who has the red and blue best-ofs and/or '1'), it is an aural bonanza for a serious fan, in particular of the 'Revolver' era onwards with a focus on the psychelic years. To paraphrase the dearly departed George Harrison, I dig 'Love'!!
Free Music Review: Its not just an Album but an EXPERIENCE! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been awaiting this day for months. I saw the show "Love" at the Mirage in Las Vegas this summer TWICE! Now, nothing can replace having the experience of this album on 6,000 speakers in a theatre built just for this show, however the Surround sound disc comes very very close.
The really neat thing about this album, even for the Beatles purist, is that you don't own this music. Period. Not only is this an 80 min score of continous music, rather that track by track, BUT this is the FIRST TIME EVER that the orginal MASTER recordings of these songs have ever been release by Apple Inc. to be fully digitized and set into surround sound. If you own a "digitally remastered" album by the Beatles, that just means they remaster the album as whole. Here, George Martin and his son have been give the chance to not only blend but remaster each song they way they were set down at Abbey Road, as individual tracks. Vocal track. Drum track. Guitar...etc...
Here is exsample of some of the cool stuff they had a chance to do...
Gerorge Martin.....on Track 13 Strawberry Fields Forever
''We spent more time on this than anything else in the show. Dominic (Champagne, the show's director) wanted something to show the creative process on stage. We found as many versions as possible, starting from his first recording at home -- Yoko had the tapes. We spent all this time finding versions and matching the keys -- with one take coming under another, all overlapping, always more than one going at all time.
''We were under pressure from people to change things, to make things different. Ringo loved this -- he loves anything where I have his drums up. Paul said, 'I'm pleased, you've been so sensitive to what the Beatles are about.' It's the best job in the world to have license to play around with all these masters.''
George Martin is aslo quoted as saying this is as close as you will ever get to hearing The Beatles LIVE.
So buy it now!!!
Free Music Review: A must! Hit: 5 Stars
When I first heard of this project I was a little reluctant to get a copy of the album as I thought it was one more attempt to sell more of the same by using the image of The Beatles. But when I started to read reviews stating that it was a good album I became curious and decided to get it, luckily, my sister gave to me as a Christmas present... an what an excellent present it was!
The idea of re-mixing The Beatles is not new, Sir George Martin did the same for the Beatles `Anthology' released some years ago. Here he basically takes the mixing to a whole new level by giving new renditions of classics by the band performed... by the Beatles themselves! He actually used original master tapes and studio outtakes to shape the album that accompanies the show by Cirque Du Soleil.
The chorus from `Hello, Goodbye' at the rhythm of Glass Onion, the riffs from `I want you' accompanied by the circus music from `Being for the benefit of Mr Kite', `Octopus's garden' with the `Good night' music, the chorus from `Here comes the sun' with the `Inner light' music playing in the background are just some things you can expect to listen here, as twisted as these may sound the mixing is incredibly well done that this new twisted versions will get to you the first time you listen to them.
This album is definitely a must for music lovers, but fans of the band will want to get the special edition that includes a DVD, how can this listening experience be any better? By listening to it in Dolby 5.1 sound! The DVD itself is reason enough to get a copy of this album, while it contains no extras at all but only the full album mastered in 5.1, here you will listen to Beatle classics as you have never done before. The experience of listening to `I am the walrus', `Yesterday' and many more in the home theater is something we fans of the band have waited for years, and since it doesn't seem they will re-master the discography anytime soon, `Love' is what you want to get... for now.
Free Music Review: LIKE NOTHING ELSE EVER! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is incredible to say the least. There are no words to describe my reaction to this revised remixed body of work, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
Not only is the content beyond anything you may have already purchased or heard, specific to any pre-released Beatles compilation, but the "SUPER-QUALITY" of George Martin's immeasurable remastering of the original recordings, as well as his unique and imaginative "reorganization" of the arrangements and tracks, is of historical proportions. The quality "remastered" sound of these older tracks is amazing. No kidding.
I find it incredible that the effort put into this musical production which was from the begining, ear-marked for the Cirque du' Soleil show "Beatles Love", currently running in Las Vegas, has become somewhat of legendary piece of music, in and of itself. From begining to end this production takes you on a "Magical Mystery Tour" of sorts of all the Beatles musical contributions. All wrapped up in a tidy and concise feast for your ears. Shouldn't really surprise any of us, in light of the source material coming from one of the greatest rock bands in history.
For Beatle fans throughout the world, as well as casual admirers of the Fab Four's musical contributions, this album recolors what it was like to be around back then, as the music was being created. The big difference is in how impressive the sound quality is. Your experinces in life, love and music will all come back to you like never before.
The DVD version (I own both versions), is beyond anything you've ever heard as well, in that George Martin utilizes true 5-channel encoding adding an element of fun to the listening experience. I do prefer the CD version over the DVD version for accurate listening however, as it best recreates what the music sounded like back in the day.
Simply stated; Superb. A must have. Especially while listening in the car.
Enjoy!
Free Music Review: Martin's Magical Mystery Mixes Hit: 5 Stars
I was certainly skeptical about this project, especially having bought into the Yellow Submarine SONGTRACK record. Some nice mixes, but they were pretty much just selling me the same thing I already have ( although I have to admit it is good to finally have a great sounding mix of Hey Bulldog!) Upon hearing about this record and the idea of mixing parts of songs like She's So Heavy with Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite, or mixing Drive My Car with Taxman, or Good Night with Octopuses Garden, well it made me more than a little nervous about how the results would fare. Still I'm a Beatles fan and so naturally and dutifully I bought the thing, but not with the greatest of expectations.
And then I heard it.
WOW! Amazing! Fantastic! Superb! I couldn't believe how well this mishmash of tune tinkering actually works! It's incredible! Not only has Sir George Martin given a new polish to these old songs, he's taken them apart and reassembled them into something almost entirely different, giving new life and depth to them. It's a thrill ride through a soundscape of the old and the new. Some of it is so good and different enough that they should be released as singles. Drive my Car/Taxman/What You're Doing would be a great single. It works so well it sounds like it was always meant to be. Lady Madonna has never been my favorite Beatles song, but the way it's done here is wonderful. Another single release. There are so many fabulous Fab songs and sounds it's as if it is a newly discovered recording of songs you've heard, but only partially, as if in a dream. Or maybe the whole thing is just a dream? It's a good one if it is.
There have been people over the years debating the subject of the fifth Beatle, but I've never doubted that George Martin is the fifth Beatle. With this release it should be made official. Hand that man a mop-top wig and a pair of Beatle boots please.
