Free Music Review: Imagine what it could have been?
Hit: 3 Stars

The first complete sentences out of my mouth as a child were the lyrics to "Here Comes the Sun." Today, I have over 3000 cds, but there is no other group that comes close the Beatles (bet I'm the first one with that epiphany). Regardless of how cliche nearly everything written about them is, I still feel a personal connection whenever I listen to any of their music...it's almost as if I am experiencing it for the first time as no one else has--it is music that still--after years of playing it OVER AND OVER--sends shivers up and down my spine. Their music clearly has that intimate ability.

"Love" is a fantastic cd and well worth getting. Some of the "mashups" are interesting and it is fun to hear reworkings of songs that are ingrained in my consciousness. The most exciting part of the recording is...the recording (as many have already said).

So, why not 5 stars? Don't get me wrong...I really enjoy this disc. But it was so clearly created for a "spectacle," like Cirque. Every break between the songs has this airy "ahhhhh ahhhhh" that is so obviously put in for the set changes. I can almost see the performance for it in my head...and I have never been within 100 miles of such a performance (and hopefully never will). That took away some of that "intimacy." Additionally, I was frustrated at the minimal mixing--which mainly is at the beginning and the end of the song--with the center unchanged. The choice of songs is unexciting. While some of my favorites are in there, some of my least are as well (do I really need to hear Octopus and Yesterday again?). There are some trancendent moments (Strawberry fields, within you, that glass onion mix, a day in the life, fixing a hole...). I also ended up liking songs that I had not liked much before simply because NOW I could hear the music! (Lucy in the Sky, Elenor Rigby). The POTENTIAL for this cd is HUGE. Imagine if this was done purely for musical reasons, rather than for an enormous commercial enterprise. Regardless of the heartwarming story about how much George liked Cirque, this aspect of it ruined the disc for me.

I guess the main reason I gave it three stars is because I am a little angry....why on earth haven't their recordings been cleaned up like this? ALL OF THEM!!! Every time I finish the disc, I feel frustrated. Re-releasing their catalog with this sound quality would be like hearing the Beatles all over again. I REALLY hope they do at some point.

Free Music Review: LOVEd It
Hit: 4 Stars

It seems as if the Grey Album may have been the inspiration for this- but what the heck! What makes this album nice is that with a little creative editing, you can have a preview of what the remastered versions of a few songs will sound like, most notably "Revolution" and "Yesterday."

My favorite mash-ups are "Tomorrow Never Knows/Within You Without You" and "Octopus's Garden" (with its inventive use of "Goodnight" and Yellow Submarine" snippets).

It also makes sense to get the CD plus the Audio DVD if you're ever going to have a surround sound system. It didn't get five stars because it should have been more out there than it was, dig?

Free Music Review: I Love this Cd & the Vegas Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm 49 years old and I was too young to appreciate "The Beatles" as a group when I was a kid. Thank God I matured into thinking (no, knowing)that they are and always will be the greatest rock & roll band ever!

I have had their music playing in my car (8-track, then cassette, then CD, now Ipod)since I got my drivers lic.in 1974. I Have never heard them sound soooo good as they do with this new CD. I can't wait till I get 5.1 surround sound so I can listen to the DVD.

I went to Vegas this last Oct. just to see the show. If you truly love their music you must see this show! It's really amazing!

Free Music Review: Adrift in a Dream
Hit: 5 Stars

If you've avoided this disc as I did because the idea seemed wrong, fear not. This is an exquisite experience. What convinced me was a friend sending me the combined Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows cut, which caused my jaw to drop to the floor. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. Simply astonishing. Words fail.

So I bought the CD/DVD set and have been swimming through it for the past week, totally delighted.

The key is to simply accept it as a dreamscape, and go with it instead of trying to critique it at every turn. Just drift. Just let it wash over you.

Quite seriously this is how the Beatles catalog would sound if the listener were on LSD. A few of you reading this will understand what I mean. It's high praise.

I'm turning 55 soon and it struck me today that I've been listening to the Beatles since I was 12 years old. Through the magic that I doubt any of us truly understands, no person, faith or fact has ever meant more to me or stayed in my heart so fully as have the Beatles. I know, it even sounds crazy to me... but it's true and I'm eternally greatful.

A surprisingly moving album, I think the serious fan may find it deeply emotional, if only upon the encapsulated realization of the immensity of this music and its influence on our lives.

George and Giles - you did a wonderful job. Thank you.

Free Music Review: Surprised
Hit: 5 Stars

I have had this for a few weeks and I have not had time to give it a listen. I am a fifty something who, like all of us, grew up with The Beatles. I wasn't impressed when I did listen on my computer speakers (a decent pair). Today I listened to it with my Sennheiser PX 100's (35 bucks on Amazon ..... great headphones for 3 times the price) and this is a pretty good record, It is no where near as choppy as I has heard that it was and pays great respect to the original music. There is a beautiful acoustic version (with full orchestra of course) of " While My Guitar Gently Weeps" that is worth the cost of the record. This record is great. Listen to it.
