Free Music Review: Intriguing, Not Essential
Hit: 4 Stars

Some, especially Beatles purists, will question whether this is a legitimate project with new light to shed on the Beatles songbook, or merely a "cash-grab" to force yet another egg out of a golden goose. I think the answer is somewhere in-between. Though the material motivations are obvious, there's no denying that this is an intriguing way to hear some old favorites in this soundtrack. Apparently, George Harrison's friendship with the founder of Cirque de Soleil was the seed for this project, and bringing George Martin on board for the production and remix was an inspired but obvious move. Martin dissects and re-assembles the Fab Four's catalog to create an almost seamless program of "mash-ups", remixes, musical segues and sound collages. It's fun for Beatles fans to pick out the snippets of songs contained within other songs. (You'll hear about half a dozen of them, for instance, toward the end of "Strawberry Fields Forever".) He also used some of the studio outtakes that can be heard in the Beatles "Anthology" series, like the a cappella version of "Because" and John's acoustic demo of "Strawberry Fields Forever". But the real revelation in this collection is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Martin takes Harrison's lovely acoustic demo and backs it with a lush string arrangement, and the result is absolutely gorgeous. This is by no means an "essential" collection, any more than the recent "1" collection or the "Let It Be" outtakes disc were, but if you're bound and determined to have every Beatles CD release, or you'd like to hear their music in a new and refreshing way, then by all means get it.

Free Music Review: Can't wait for Love Volume 2
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a Beatles fan for 40 years, and have loved all the original versions of their songs. I generally don't care to hear live versions of their songs, outtakes or even hear other artists perform their songs. So I was very skeptical that Love would be a good listen. As I listened and got over the initial anxiety of the materpieces not sounding exactly as I remembered them, I found myself engrossed in the CD. I enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought a copy for my niece, who is just discovering the Beatles. If I scratch or lose the CD, I'll buy it again in a heartbeat. In summary, I can't wait for Love Volume 2 (assuming that such a CD will someday exist).

Free Music Review: Amazing rebirth of The Beatles!
Hit: 5 Stars

I had to buy this album after seeing the Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas. What really amazed me was the fact that the sound quality of the layers in these tracks. They all sound like they were recorded yesterday, not almost 40 years ago! New life was injected into all of the classic Beatle tracks, and fused together for a really incredible assortment. I highly reccommend this album if you have a good aural "literacy" of The Beatles and you're looking for something new. It's a lot of fun to listen to each track closely and try to figure out the original tracks from which the bits and pieces come from. BUT, most of all, I strongly reccommend seeing the show BEFORE you listen to these tracks. You're missing a huge part of the message by not actually seeing the show while listening. Each track tells a story and they are arranged in a specific way. This was not something done by a 10 year old sitting around. A lot of work was put into making this. Enjoy!

Free Music Review: The 5th Beatle!
Hit: 5 Stars

Sir George Martin is, in effect, one of the surviving members of the band, and probably had as much to do with its characteristic sound as anyone else. I purchased this CD without knowing much about it, and was enraptured: this is the closest thing to a "new" Beatles album since "Let It Be". I can only add: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! THE BEATLES!!!!"

Free Music Review: Are you kidding??
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow, What a job by Sir George Martin (the 5th Beatle) and son Giles! Remember people this is a THEATRICAL SOUNDTRACK for the alien performers of Cirque Du Soleil. The story of how the concept evolved is a great story in itself starting with George Harrison's personal friendship and common iterests with Guy Laliberte' the founder of Cirque Du Soleil. And later embraced by surviving band members and families of band members unfortunatly not here to see this wonderful project come to life. Now for the music. I have been an audio entusiast most of my life. I own many original Beatles pressings as well as both the complete Japanese Beatle Box LPs and the complete Mobile Fidelity box LP collection. I actually do not even own "Beatles Love" on CD...yet! I do however own it on limited edition LP. The sound quality and mix by Sir George Martin and son Giles is sonically way beyond all I have ever heard before on any of the other very desireable LP collections I have mentioned above. While being certainly familiar with the music I sat captivated as a child waiting to hear what is going to amaze me next. The breath of new life and excitement cast into these classics heard by most people on our planet (and maybe other planets) many times and engrained into our heads and beings has jumped to a new level. I can not remember the last time a "sound scape" of any kind, either produced as a music album or a theatrical soundtrack has sparked the shear emotion of great listening pleasure. I echo most of the reviews I have read here and say "Don't go out and buy this, RUN out and buy it! I will be puchasing the CD so I can use it in my car and ipod. But in closing, get hip to the analog vinyl version its another level of the pleasure this music offers.
