Free Music Notes for Please Please MeFree Music Review: A pleasure to hear again! Hit: 1 StarsLike many, we still have our vinyl stashed or stored away; whatever happen to the days when it was front and center in our dwellings? If you're like me, I guess I'm keeping them just to retain a bit of my youth. I have a vinyl copy of this album, with the original plastic, which I purchased at a discount store in the early 1970's, for the sum of $1.99! It, along with all my other Beatle albums, make for a nice display in the guest room of our home, as well as an interesting conversation piece.
I really enjoyed hearing some for the more "obscure" Beatle songs recorded on the "Please,Please Me" album. Hearing the Fab Four performing and recording material not written by Lennon & McCartney takes these songs and transform them into the Beatlesque style that the group was so famous for. It also demostrates that good, pop songs need not be over 3 minutes long.
If you enjoy the Beatle's music, I recommed purchasing this album. It really shows their musical tallent and professional approach to pop music. Besides, I don't even own a turtable anymore, so how am I going to make use of my $1.99 bargin?
Free Music Review: Not into the early stuff but still a must have Hit: 5 StarsThe early Beatles are fun to listen to only because they were new to music and the tunes were cute. Their early music sounded 1950's, which is the main reason why I gravitate towards their later work (from Rubber Soul on).
The Boys harmonized like no one else could (then or now) and they took control of their instruments and their audience from start to finish.
That's what makes The Beatles the greatest group of musicians ever (despite the uninformed opinion of certain folks who are desperate for attention and feel the need to post immature "reviews" that have zip to do with the Beatles' music).
Free Music Review: Honk if you hate the Beatles! Hit: 1 StarsHonk if you hate the Beatles!
Honk if you hate the Beatles!
Honk if you hate the Beatles!
Please Please Me = Bad Bad music
So dated are the Beatles, yuch!
Free Music Review: Own it, love it... Hit: 5 StarsAnd if you're a true beatles fan you should have it. My fave songs on this album are I saw her standing there, Anna (go to him), Ask me why, please please me, do you want to know a secret and there's a place. To people who enjoy late beatles or classic rock from the 70's, this might be hard to adjust to... But I love early beatles so naturally I enjoy the corniness and cuteness of the vocals and lyrics in this album.
Free Music Review: Introducing The Beatles Hit: 5 StarsAlthough they formed as The Quarrymen in 1956 (and later became The Moondogs, The Rainbows, The Beetles, The Silver Beetles, The Beat Brothers and eventually The Beatles) it took this fantastic group several years before they scored a hit record in their own right (they had already backed Tony Sheridan on his 1961 single "My Bonnie"). It was late 1962 and after many years of trying to "make it" outside their native British city Liverpool and the German touring circuit they had been successful on, John, Paul, George and Ringo scored their first UK top 40 chart entry with the single "Love Me Do". The record was a fair success, but didn't impress record bosses and it missed the top 10. It was the follow-up single in early-1963 "Please Please Me," when entering the top 3, persuaded the record bosses to get an album out. However, this album had to be out "really quick," while their was interest in the band, after all The Beatles were most likely only going to last a couple of months....
The 1st two singles are included here with 12 other songs. The songs were recorded in one day at EMI studios to rush release the record. I doubt The Beatles (and most definitely no one at EMI) would know how important the next few months would be for The Beatles as they rushed through track by track to make the album.
The 1st song on the disc is "I saw her standing there," a uptempo rocker sung by Paul McCartney, a song he co-wrote with John Lennon and was one of the most popular numbers in the live set. Infact most of these numbers were performed by the Beatles in their early shows.
The album has a varied mix of rockers, ballads, covers and original material and still stands up as one of the finest recordings ever made, despite EMI's attempts to rush the record out while "there was still money to be made". It was a long day for The Beatles making this disc and Lennon's shouting on "Twist N Shout" is not intended because of the title of the song, although it may sound that way, but because he was trying to stay awake during the recording session. (At the end of this track you can hear Paul McCartney and George Harrsion cheering, this is because they have completed the album.)
This album rose to Number 1 in the UK and the bosses at EMI seemed please with the success, that they wanted another album. After all, Beatlemania wasn't going to last but they might be lucky and make a bit from a follow-up.....
