Free Music Notes for Please Please MeFree Music Review: Best Ever - John Lennon is God Hit: 5 StarsWhy do I say this is the best album ever? Because it is so enjoyable! All songs make you dance happily. I Saw Her Standing There is a mighty bass song. Misery is a nice song too. Anna has great George backing vocals. Chains is a so-so song compared to the other masterpieces. Boys is fun. Ask Me Why, another so-so. Please Please Me gets better each time you listen to it. Love Me Do has this feel that makes it somehow less enjoyable but still a good song. P.S. I Love You is a great McCartney song that I love. Baby It's You is easily the best here. Do You Want To Know A Secret is a song that George sings but was written by John. It is awesome! A Taste Of Honey has cheesy lyrics but it owns too. There's A Place has got a REAL GOOD BRIDGE! Twist And Shout has a story behind it.
As you guys might now, this was recorded in one day. It was the end of the day, and only one song was left for recording. It was Twist And Shout. The only problem was, John had no voice left... The guys in the studio took him to a cafeteria where he had hot milk. Then they came back, for a challenge in Beatle story not seen until Magical Mystery Tour - Playing Twist And Shout. Lennon was shirtless and people were practically holding him so he didn't collapse. So it began. As you may notice, it has amazing guitar, drums and vocals. Ringo had to do some insanely hard drumming patterns - If he failed, game over! They wouldn't have been able of recording Twist And Shout. George didn't make a single mistake. They all played extremely well - Making a wonderful perfomance, especially John.
Unaware of what would happen, the boys released the disc some days later. They became the greatest.
We learn that only if you do like John and kill yourself while singing is when you're able of recording a disc as good as this. Best ever.
Free Music Review: The album which sparked Beatlemania! Hit: 5 Stars It had to start somewhere and after the success of the "Please Please Me" single in the UK, producer George Martin knew he had to get a Beatle album out pretty quickly. So this album was recorded pretty quickly. Imagine a Beatles gig at The Cavern. It was magically reproduced within the friendly and controllable confines of Abbey Road Studio #2. Any study of The Beatles' music has to start here.
Free Music Review: Introducing The Beatles! Hit: 5 StarsThe title of this review is the same as the very first Beatles album released in the USA. But in 1963,not many music lovers paid attention to the band. The cover photo is similar to the one on THE BEATLES 1962-1966,originally released in 1973. Now for the songs:I SAW HER STANDING THERE,appeared on the American MEET THE BEATLES!. Tiffany Darwich covered the song on her 1987 debut album TIFFANY as I SAW HIM STANDING THERE. MISERY and THERE'S A PLACE appeared on INTRODUCING THE BEATLES,released on the defunct Vee Jay label. The other eleven tracks,LOVE ME DO,TWIST AND SHOUT,ANNA(Go To Him),CHAINS,BOYS,ASK ME WHY,the title track,P.S. I LOVE YOU,BABY IT'S YOU,A TASTE OF HONEY and DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET? appeared on another American album,THE EARLY BEATLES,on the Capitol label.
Free Music Review: If it weren't for the Magical Mystery Tour... Hit: 5 Stars... This would be my favourite Beatles album. But mysterious is the very word to describe this one. It's so mysterious. It's all evry well for modern teenagers liek em to come back 40+ years later and say "oh, they progressed on their second album" but aren't we forgetting it's the material on this album, not Rubber Soul but this album, that began Beatlemania. Has it got something, you bet your lucky stars it is! They tapped into something VERY important. Most people have a longing for something that isn't "Everyday". Something that is out of the ordinary. And if you analyse the lyrics on this album all these songs relate to that theme through romance. It's amazing how they took the cover versions and morphed them into the theme. For example, take the lyrics of Chains. They keep refering to these mysterious, invisible chains that are made of love. It's something that isn't everyday, it's like some power that keeps him tied to his girlfriend. The Cookies version didn't realyl convey that message, but this version comes with a wailing harmonica intro and George Martins "Tidal wave of sound". Phil Spector gets so much credit for hsi wall of sound but, honestly, the amount of reverb on this album meagres the sound of Phil Spector. Compare the harmonica intro of Chains to the intro on I should have known better. It's so different. Then there's a fun, energetic version of Boys. The Shirrelles version is pretty much a love song but the way the Beatles perform it is breathtakingly mysterious. The lead vocal is done by Ringo, and in the background, when the line "she takes a trip around the world" is sung, Paul and John are heard screaming int he background as though they were falling form a great height, whcih is helped with all the reverb added to their vocals. It really creates that surreal effect of "Takes a trip around the world". That they could draw mystique form other peoples pop songs is unbelievable. The reverb on this album is amazing. A taste of honey is also amazing, if not really infectious. The way Paul sings about the honey it comes across as some spiritual liquid. The originals are amazing, ant he best song on the album is There's a place, very amazing. This is the song that is the most thematic, where he lyrics are about a yougn man who doesn't like reality so he prefers to live in a better place inside his head. The harmonica production on the track is one of the highlights of the Beatles career for me. The title track is similar. You can just pick up the theme in the lyrics, they're so obvious. Teamed with extreme reverb on vocals and harmonica, Paul, John and to a lesser extent George sing about being in love with a girl who doesn't treat her boyfriend right and he's singing abotu how much he longs for the day he treats her right. I also love Ask Me Why, a sweet ballad with moving vocals about the overwhelming joy of getting the girl of his dreams. He's so overwhelmed he's crying. It's such a sweet song, listen out for Harrison's wonderful guitar. The words to describe this album are very mysterious, energetic, upbeat, surreal, uninhibited, exciting and personal. My favourite songs, all fourteen but my favourite five are 1. There's a place, 2. Please Please me, 3. Ask Me Why, 4. A taste of honey and 5. Boys (chains comes a close 6th, followed by the rest. To sum this all up << I LOVE THIS ALBUM, THIS ALBUM IS SO AMAZING, I LOVE IT I LOVE IT (we seem to have lost connection)>>
PS, does anyone know if "Thank you girl" and "From me to you" were recorded the same day as this album, since those two songs have the same production as the songs on this album. Also, since this was all recorded in one day, the production is consistent from start to finish. I say, pick this one up today and be blown away by a tidal wave of sound!
Free Music Review: Clumsy, but rewarding first effort... Hit: 4 StarsIf I had to explain to you who The Beatles were, it would be obvious that you have been living under a rock for the past forty years, or since the time you were born. They have produced some of the most enjoyable, thoughtful and inspiring music of all time but this album proves something that is frequently forgotten, they are one hell of a rock and roll band.
Before the over-dubs and studio trickery, The Beatles were pure rock and roll with leather jackets, greased hair and lots of energy, before Brian Epstein made them a bit more polite. This album is good to remember The Beatles when they were just a little rock and roll group. Fun but at the same time, it didn't have the impact that something like 'Strawberry Fields Forever' or 'In My Life' did. That's not to say it's bad, it's just not as good as they proved themselves to be. I do recommend picking up this album, though, as you will have a great time listening to it. There's a few clunkers here but any album that starts off with 'I Saw Her Standing There' and finishes off with 'Twist and Shout' can't be too bad in my book.
If you want a good introduction to The Beatles without getting too much into the later stuff, you're better off picking up something like 'A Hard Day's Night' which shows just what a talented writing and singing group they could be. This album is essential for all us fans, of course, and fun to put on in the summer and twist and shout to.
