Free Music Notes for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Remastered)Free Music Review: A Beatles Pinnacle, but Just One of Many to Come Hit: 5 Stars
Personally, I prefer my Sgt. Pepper transferred to CD-R where I can add the prelude of 'Strawberry Fields Forever' and 'Penny Lane'--which were initially intended for the album--and the addendum of 'All You Need Is Love', which nicely wraps up 'the summer of love'. That, I think, makes for the greatest pop album of all time. However, I disagree with critic Ian Macdonald whose 'Revolution in the Head' depicts 'Pepper' as the culmination of the Beatles' upward trajectory, with all that followed as a "coming down" stage. I believe that had the packaging of their subsequent material been different, the albums that followed--Magical Mystery Tour, the White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be would have maintained that 'Pepper' standard. In fact, I believe that a 4-LP programming of the best of their 1970-1973 solo work as a Beatles release--let's call this box-set 'Black Box'--would have been the greatest album/set of the 1970s, perhaps even better than 'Pepper'. Free Music Review: I love the Beatles esp with great digital re-mastering (09-09-2009 version) Hit: 5 Stars
This is for the 09-09-2009 re-mastered version. Not to be confused with the July 15, 2002 version (which I give a 4* rating).
I love the Beatles. I love Sgt Pepper. And I love great re-mastering. I try to mostly choose digital re-mastering done after year 2000 (about, and even better when re-mastered more recently). And by a reputable record label. And from Amazon. With most music purchased from Amazon you can listen to sound bytes, before you make the purchase, that are actually close to the sound quality on the CD or MP3 download. Unfortunately, you can't pre-listen to this album. But it all turned out great.
Also, unfortunately, if the original recorded source isn't done well, the sound quality is limited no matter how great the re-mastering. Sounds like the Beatles used the higher end recording equipment of the time. I haven't had good luck finding the first hit recordings by The Rolling Stones (and I love the Stones).
Paid $12.99 and shipping was free. Purchased on 09-09-2009 directly from Amazon
Free Music Review: Influential recording.... Hit: 5 Stars
This album, which came out in 1967, changed everything that was to come after it in the history of rock. Songs like "A Day in the Life"or "Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds" took us into the stratosphere. Paul McCartney's interest in contemporary classical music, such as in the compositions of Karlheinz Stockhausen (who appears as one of the figures on the cover), and George Harrison's interest in music from India, helped shape their ideas about what was possible in music.
This particular remastered CD, which was created from the original stereo analogue master tapes, is exceptional in its clarity and warmth. One element that was missing form the original American release is presented here, which was the chaotic splicing of voices found at the very end of the recording. This CD also comes with a booklet and a mini-documentary that can be played on a computer.
Free Music Review: DEFINITELY AN IMPROVEMENT... Hit: 5 Stars
OVER THE '87 RELEASE.
that's what the 'powers that be' promised, and they delivered.
if you can't hear much of a difference between the 'old' and the 'new',
i would recommend purchasing a better stereo system.
the better the system these new cd's are played on, the more noticeable the improvements:
crisper highs, more detailed low end, mid range to die for. also, i noticed no clipping of sound due to compression. these cd's were not over-compressed as stated by some, who i doubt even listened carefully, if at all.
oh yeah, one more thing, if you still think that the only difference is that the new remasters are louder and nothing else, you may also want to get your hearing checked out.
great job by all concerned; and it also proves that when produced correctly, cd's are still a great medium to store music.
Free Music Review: the beatles psychedelic masterpiece sgt pepper!! Hit: 5 Stars
the beatles 'sgt pepper,s' was released on june 1st 1967,and was the beatles first masterpiece.sgt pepper took 6 months or so to record and no other record by any other band at the time had such an elaborate production. this album stayed in the top 100 charts for a year or more.the album cover for sgt pepper,s is one of the coolest in rock and set a trend some other bands at the time in 1967 and since have copied just check out the stones satanic majesties also released that year.many of the songs on sgt pepper,s have a psychedelic flavour to them which reflect the beatles experimentation with some illicit party goods!these new remastered versions not only improve the overall sound but have great new booklets and many cool vintage photos of the band!!i really like most of this album.soif you are a fan of the beatles get this now!!
