Free Music Notes for The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas: Music From The Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: Best part is the last three songs Hit: 3 Stars"Sidestep" by Charles Durning is a classic. The song always conjures the image of him strutting around the rotunda of the Texas State capitol singing and dancing. And what a comment on politics and politicians!
"Hard Candy Christmas" is a GORGEOUS song, but I agree with the lead review which suggests the movie version should have been included with this CD instead of Dolly's solo performance. The whole purpose of this song was to illustrate that all the women in that whorehouse had lived a hard life.
"I Will Always Love You" is a gorgeous ballad. It's a little over the top for me, but still one of the best musical performances on the CD.
The rest is cute and I'd consider it filler.
Free Music Review: Classic Burt & Dolly Hit: 4 StarsI had watched this movie YEARS ago, and liked it enough, it stuck in my mind until I bought it. Yes, there are scenes not appropriate for younger audiences, but the music is great (where else do you see Burt singing?). A fun movie to watch.
Free Music Review: Nothing dirty going on! Hit: 5 StarsFabulous musical score. Great voices. Funny lyrics. Sing along!
Free Music Review: Buy it, you wig-wearing, citified sonofa.... Hit: 5 StarsBrave the ridicule and get the soundtrack to one of the best Burt musicals ever! Ok, I think it's the only Burt musical ever, but these people actually have good voices.
Free Music Review: The HUGE problem with this soundtrack.... Hit: 3 StarsIt has always irked me that instead of including the MOVIE version of Hard Candy Christmas in which ALL whorehouse girls share lead vocals on individual lines (the true MOVIE SOUNDTRACK version), a gorgeous moment in an otherwise wacky film, they included a Dolly Parton SOLO LEAD version on this soundtrack which just loses the whole point of the song's use in the movie. In fact, a true homage to the way the song was presented in the film was recorded on the RUPAUL christmas CD, in which (s)he SHARES the lines with a gaggle of her favorite fag hags--of course, that version is total camp.
