When Putumayo World Music began,it was ambitious with its "Best of World Music" compilations.Luckily,it has branched out in different genres&while not seeking out "THE BEST",it has brought excellent music to a broader audience.Its "Odyssey","Lounge","Playground"&"Groove" series are examples of this.
This compilation is disappointing.It does have some highlights-
1)Angola Beleza Natural-Great opening track.Very joyful.
2)Rete-Relaxing&upbeat.
3)Casale-Great song from the African supergroup Toure Kunda.
4)Sawale-Great song from Kotoja,a group that has sadly vanished into obscurity.I read recently that they're playing around here in the Bay Area.
5)Te Araro-A rousing song from Polynesia.
NOT a great track record to have 5 great songs&7 not-so-great ones.
Instead,get "African Groove","Brazilian Groove"&"African Groove" if you like dance music.Putumayo's "New World Party" is a VAST improvement on this same theme.Putumayo has learned from its past mistakes&has come to excel in world music.Now it DOES have the Best of World Music!
