Free Music Notes for The Big Blue, Vol. 2 Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: Brings Back Many Memories Hit: 5 Stars
I've had this CD since 1989 when the movie, "Le Grand Bleu" was the number one movie in France for many, many weeks. I was studying in France at the time and saw the movie three times (which is three-hours-plus long). Each time I play the CD, I remember my French town, my fellow "exchange students", and all of the surroundings which were my home for that year. The music is both incredibly relaxing and invigorating at the same time. In addition, this CD served as the background music during the dinner at my wedding and caused many people to ask what the music was and where did it come from. In fact, the band that played at the wedding informed my wife and myself later that they bought the CD right after our reception and made it part of their recommended background music for all their weddings. GET THIS CD!!! (And try to see the original movie, it is incredible...much better than the American version which is only 1 1/2 hours long...)
Free Music Review: Haunting, melodious, exquisite Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great CD. Not all film sound tracks are worth buying, but this one is. The music from Luc Besson's film "The Big Blue" is wonderful, haunting, melodic and very soothing. No hard rock, rap or pop for you on this CD but that in itself is a welcome change. You feel like you are floating in a sea of musical waves whilst swimming with dolphins. Each time I play this CD I remember the awesome scene in the film where the central character Jacques is lying in his bed watching the sea above him slowly lower itself to his reach. Is he dreaming you ask yourself as the music pounds in your ears, or is it reality? I loved the film and I equally love the music that accompanied it. Even if you don't get to see the film, the music stands on its own, and you can't go wrong with the price either. Well worth adding to your CD collection if you want something thought provoking and little different from the norm.
Free Music Review: Fifteen years later, I still love it Hit: 5 Stars
This album marked my introduction to the music of French composer Eric Serra, who had been up to that point and continued to be Luc Besson's de facto scorer. Maybe because I've always loved the sea, dolphins and being a diver myself for a few years, I could explain the fascination I have about the music in this album. Or it could be because it brings back beautiful images from the movie to my mind. In any case, fifteen years after its original release, this is one of my most treasured soundtracks, one that I love from beginning to end, and one that I can see almost anyone dreaming to... closing their eyes and letting go, thinking of a distant island, far away from here, where they can just breathe in deep and feel the sea breeze with the sound of seagulls and a school of dolphins playing like clowns in the nearby water. Carried away? You will be when you listen to 'The Big Blue'.
Free Music Review: Beautiful and enchanting Hit: 5 Stars
I too first saw this movie in Paris when it came out, and saw it twice that summer. The french version of both the movie and the music is really all you should see and hear!I happened to catch The Big Blue on TNT here and was all confused at the "cuts" & changes. Also, my beloved score was completely different and sounded almost "tin-like" in comparison to the beautiful lulls I've been in love with beyond a decade. I will say I bought the soundtrack in Paris and then lost the tape and found this version in a CD swap shop, it is slighty different to the one i bought in '88, there are two great songs missing, but it's still well worth the purchase.
Free Music Review: Yes, This IS the Actual Score! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the original score by Eric Serra (who scores all of Luc Besson's films BTW). While it has a few flaws, it outshines the "American version" re-scoring of Bill Conti, by a large margin. I first saw the American version of the film and, while I enjoyed it immensely, I felt that Conti's score only served to weaken the film. It was only after viewing the directors cut with the restored footage and Serra's original score that I could truly appreciate this film for the masterpeice that it is.
