Free Music Notes for WarpaintFree Music Review: Black Crowes return to the Blues Hit: 4 Stars
Although the last two albums weren't horrible, they certainly didn't have the creative flair and originality that we've come to expect from the Black Crowes of the 90's.
Thankfully, Warpaint brings us back to what was once considered the norm: Folksy, Bluesy, Rocksy Music. In that order.
Warpaint doesn't rock out like Amorica, but it certainly doesn't droll along like By Your Side did. 'Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution' opens the album strongly and sets the stage for the remaining tracks, none of which struck me as "filler".
Although this isn't my favorite Crowes' album, every track is a good listen, and it opens the band to non fans and possibly a younger crowd. I'm not at all implying that Warpaint is commerical or Pop, just that it struck me as being more widely "listenable" than previous works.
Enjoy!
Free Music Review: -=- Older & Wiser Crowes -=- Hit: 4 Stars
This is the first Black Crowes cd released in a while, 7 years to be exact. With this release, the band has another new lineup. The driving force behind the Black Crowes, the Robinson brothers are still here. I find this release more laid back than some of the previous releases. Generally, the songs are all good, although there really are no songs that I feel knock your socks off. There will be no songs that change the landscape of the music scene, just good rock and roll. I wish I could rate it higher. My 4 stars is more like 3 1/2 stars, but admittedly it changes everytime I listen. It fluctuates from 3 1/2 to 4 stars every time I listen. If you are a fan, buy with confidence. If you are a casual listener, of course check out the snippets included here on the Amazon site before you buy.
Free Music Review: Impressive Hit: 4 Stars
I always liked the Black Crowes but never started buying their music until I saw them live with Tom Petty about 3-4 years ago. They really impressed me as a live band and I found myself buying their cds because I wanted to hear what they played live that night again. Again they have impressed me this CD shows a real growth and maturity to their sound. I really look forward to seeing these songs performed live. It's real bluesy, southern, funky at times, and heavy at times. It's well written and the musicianship on this album excellent, there is some great guitars on there. All together this album is well rounded. I'm giving it 4 stars because like another reviewer said they are getting their feet wet again and I expect bigger better things to come.
Free Music Review: Welcome Home Boys........ Hit: 4 Stars
Wow.....this was a make it break it moment and the Crowes have delivered baby! No doubt the addition of Luther Dickinson has really given them some much needed, fresh inspiration.......he fits perfectly into this band. Paul Stacey's production has given them their best sounding effort I think of the whole catalog. I hate to say they sound "mature" on this one because it never gets taken the right way.....I'm just saying they're writing timeless material and they should be proud. It really stunk to not have them around those few years, I hope they keep on this time! This IS ROCK AND ROLL. Don't miss it, worthy purchase indeed. Make it a point to catch them Live, there aren't many live acts who can touch them nowadays! AMEN!!!!!
Free Music Review: Get the vinyl version Hit: 4 Stars
I just got the vinyl of 'War Paint' with the bonus 7" single (two extra songs not on the CD - a reversal, that for years the CDs would have tracks not on the LP). If you still play vinyl, have a functioning turntable, and are a Black Crowes fan, do yourself a favor and get the LP instead of the CD. You will not be sorry - you will get full 12" x 12" artwork in a gatefold sleeve, plus a 'picture disc' with attractive artwork. I agree with the majority of the reviews thus far; 'War Paint' is a very good album in the vain of their earlier albums 'Southern Harmony' and 'Amorica'
