Okay, it's only been about a year since I first heard this album.... and as a huge fan of the Crowes heavier rock side, this was a it of a disappointment at first and I've thought of it as weak for quite some time..... but the true test of an album and music to me is how many tracks I wind up putting on my CD mixes for my car and into "best of" compilations. And since 6 of eleven songs (or 7 of thirteen if you count the bonus tracks) wind up on my mixes, I guess I've changed my mind. Warpaint overall is a solid album. Anyone who likes 70s-style southern rock will not be disappointed. Of their 90s records, this one reminds me most of The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion.
My favorite tracks are Oh Josephine, Walk Believer Walk, Locust Street, and Wounded Bird. I could have done without Whoa Mule.
I feel like this album is like the Crowes getting their feet wet again. I look forward to many more great albums in the future.

There is a reason that this album debuted at #5 on the charts, the highest charting for the Black Crowes since their second album "Southern Harmony and Musical Companion". It is one of their best albums.
The time off for the band in recent years must have sparked something creatively in the Robinson brothers because their triumphant return
is excellent. Some of the best Black Crowes music ever.

Man was I excited when I heard that the Crowes were recording another album. This album does not disappoint. My favorite Crowes disc is "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion". "Warpaint" is a close second. There is no other band that plays awesome bluesy, southern Rock N' Roll, the way the Crowes do. "Warpaint" is Rock N'Roll music the way many great bands made in the early 1970's
