Free Music Review: FINALLY!
Hit: 5 Stars

Perhaps the greatest CD of all time, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, was the second by the Black Crows and therefore set them with an insurmoutnable task of ever creating a better CD. Amorica was quite solid even if it was a bit too 'doctored' with all of the studio alterations. But after that, the Crows seem to settle into some kind of 'We paid our dues, now we can just sell plastic discs'.

WELL, brothers and sisters, the Black Crows are BACK!

Warpaint is phenomenal! It is what we want from the Crows,
Southern,
Soul,
Rock,
Roll!

Robinson has finally gotten back in touch with his inner Shaman, and he rattles the lyrics out with syncopated elegance like a rattle snake Rattle. The piano makes you feel that you are in an old saloon, and the percusion is SO FUL. The guitars are a bit toned down relative to other Crow's CDs, but HELL, its so FFF'n worth it that I dont think anyone will complain. I could go into what songs I think are the best (Movin on down the Line), but I wont try to preach to you about what you like best of the Crows.

Buy it! Its better than 3 snakes, Lion, Shake $, By Ur Side, AND Amorica!!!!!
Its alright Brothers, its alright Sisters

Free Music Review: The Robinson Brothers and Gorman Do It Up Right
Hit: 5 Stars

The playing on this new release is vintage Crowes - tight, intricate and (at times) awe-inspiring. The Trouble Triplets of Chris & Rich Robinson, along with their partner in crime, Steve Gorman on the drums have created a fantastic set of songs. I get a little tired of hearing people whine about the band not re-recording releases from years past. If you want to hear Amorica or Southern Harmony, bust them out and give them a spin. Let's take this new release for what it is - a ridiculously solid band playing southern-fried blues rock at its best. Chris Robinson's time away as a solo artist seems to have breathed new life into his singing with the Crowes. His time behind the board on his own solo recordings (and the latest Gary Louris release, VAGABONDS) has proved to be time well spent. WARPAINT is well-produced (Paul Stacey) and is filled with nice little touches throughout. This is the release that's been missing for a long, long time. Yes, it's more mellow than some of their earlier stuff. However, there isn't a lost track here. Each song stands on its own and has something to offer. Again, if you want the old stuff, dust off the discs and knock yourself out. For me, WARPAINT is going to be in heavy rotation for a good long time.

Free Music Review: Top 5 best of 2008
Hit: 5 Stars

There have been quite a few good albums that have been released in 2008, which raises the hopes of many that good music is coming back. One of the highlights is the highly anticipated Warpaint by The Black Crowes. Their best album since Amorica, the Crowes go back to their roots and even though the brothers Robinson don't get along socially, they have always had a spark musically, and it's never been more apparent than on this album. Songs like Movin on Down the Line, Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution, Whoa Mule, and a cover of Reverend Charlie Jackson's God's Got it, are highlights and shows a whole other spectrum of unexplored ideas the band previously had not endevored. Warpaint has everything a good Crowes record should be. It's not contrived, they still have their authentic classic rock/blues sound they have perfected over the years, and it's an album that grows on you through multiple listens. You notice something different each time. Overall, this is a flawless record in the sense that there are no bad songs on it, and it brings back redemption to a band who, for many, lost their way. Well, they've found it.

Free Music Review: Yet another great Black Crowes album
Hit: 5 Stars

You gotta tip your cap to The Black Crowes. After they went on hiatus in 2002 who knew if they'd even play together again. Warpaint is a solid album that stands in there with most of their best releases. I still like Shake Your Money Maker and Southern Harmony the best....probably always will. But Warpaint stands in there with Amorica and may be the best release since that album. They continue to tweak their style on each album. One doesn't sound exactly like the same. Yet they retain their trademark sound. Sure they have that classic early 70s classic rock sound. Too bad new bands don't sound more like that.

Don't know what else to say other than this. If you like The Black Crowes you'll probably like this album. It has the rockers, the bluesy songs, the slow jams, and even a twist on an old Gospel tune. These songs will sound good in concert beside all the classic hits. Plus Luther Dickinson adds a lot with his slide guitar playing. Way to go Crowes. Good to have you back making music that puts the new bands to shame.

Free Music Review: Best since Shake Your Moneymaker
Hit: 5 Stars

I have never been a huge Black Crowes fan. I like them, I own a couple of their albums, but definitely would not call myself a diehard. Last week I went out and picked up "Warpaint" based on a suggestion from a friend, who IS a huge Crowes fan. I didn't expect much but after three listens I have to say..."Warpaint" blows me away. An absolutely fabulous release! It rocks, it slows down, it rocks again. Not a bad tune on it. I see the reviews on here giving 1, 2 or 3 stars and I just don't get it. This is their best release in over 15 years.

My favorites are "Daughters Of The Revolution" (what a great tune to kick off the album), "Wonded Bird" and "Locust Street" (I once lived on a Locust Street in Ohio, so this song is near and dear to my heart).

I'm telling you, don't listen to what the 1 and 2 star critics say. Pick this one up and decide for yourself. This is one of the best releases of 2008. I know---I'm gushing. But damn this CD is good.
