Free Music Review: I LOVED The Big Come Up & I Like This Too

I found this to be a really interesting departure for the boys; and for the most part I really like it. It's not even close to The Big Come Up for me, but I like it. Does anyone else see much of this as a "pseudo-cover" album? Not that that's bad. Two of my favorite cuts, Strange Times (a genetic hybrid of Led Zeppelin & Portishead) & Pyschotic Girl (straight early '90s The The) are great songs. Many influences at work here. I also love Oceans & Streams. I think the strength of this CD is why I was so underwhelmed by Brothers. Attack and Release
If you love BK, fer the love of MUSIC -- start hunting! There is more great stuff out there. MUCH more. Blues-based rock bands have been neglected and ignored for years. And no, you don't have to go to classic rock catalogs to find them (check out Tishamingo's "The Point"). The irony is that it took Danger Mouse, a "hot" hip hop producer, to put this band on the national new music map.

I often wish that this band would just keep pumping out the raw and untamed sound of the first album. I miss it and no one else makes music like that. That said, I am sure I would be griping that it had gotten stale if they just continued to retread that sound. It took me a while, but I love this album. It represents growth and change and encouraged me to get Brothers. I had to learn to love this, but it was good school.Free Music Review: good

Another good release from the Black Keys. Catchy songs, and maturing style. For every fan who doesn't like them for the different sounds, there's another fan who wouldn't like them for not trying something new. This album is much more polished than the Black Keys older stuff. I love their old raw sound. This album is better produced and sounds like it would have wider appeal. They could only take that old formula so far. It's good to hear them trying something new and doing it well.
