Free Music Review: cool is as cool does
Hit: 5 Stars

These guys are just plan cool. The music they put out is hard blues and rock. It's Perfect for the crap thats put out in todays so called music seen, and there even ten times better live. If you like real raw music this CD is for you.If not then why put them down because it's not what you expected. If you want some watered down music it's out there waiting for you.I'll stick to this because it's as close to the real deal as your gonna get in this day and age.

Free Music Review: Disappointing for the Black Keys
Hit: 3 Stars

People often mention the White Stripes when they talk about the Black Keys, but aside from being a duo, with a color in their name, and from the Midwest, there is no comparison. The Black Keys are far more interesting and raw. If I may indulge in some hyperbole, I'd go so far as to say the Black Keys are Jimi Hendrix reincarnated in two guys from Akron, OH!

I first came across the Black Keys with their 2004 release "Rubber Factory" and was blown away, especially since I don't normally listen to much Blues or Garage Rock. I have since picked up "Thickfreakness" and "Chulahoma", in addition to seeing them live. This is a great band with undoubtedly long career ahead for them, but this album was something of a let down for me. Ideally I'd have rated it at 3 & a half stars as about half the songs are a solid 3 and the other half a solid 4..

If you've never heard the Black Keys before, do yourself a favor and pick up "Rubber Factory" first. "Thickfreakness" is also excellent and as another reviewer said, a much more Bluesy affair. Both albums are much stronger and more fresh. That said, if you're already a fan you will probably enjoy this album too.

Free Music Review: Rocking Psychedelic Blues!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an interesting new album by the Black Keys. Their first two were comparatively similar, good old fashioned hard rocking blues. Then Rubber Factory came in with some darker tones, some experiments and quirky melody's which were great none the less. But on this one, its back to the blues so to speak and the lead on some tracks is just amazing, you can really hear how Dan's guitar work is evolving. its still based in blues rock, but its a bit spacier, more psychedelic and carefully played. For example, he controls feedback better and more often on this album then any of the other three. Also, he's not afraid anymore to slip in an extended solo even if the tempo drops a little into a darker place in the blues, somewhere many guitarists don't often venture. And all the songs are good. I was especially impressed with the vocals and guitar lines on Your the One; a sound I have really never heard before. If your into the Black Keys or blues in any form, you'll love this album. If your looking for a little more hard edged blues then the spacey relaxed sound that dominates most of this record, id suggest their album Thickfreakness, it definitely rocks the hardest out of all their material.

Free Music Review: They have they key
Hit: 5 Stars

Yeah, well I don't write many reviews. And I don't really want to categorize them as they have there own style of music.

Are they good?? No. More like being on the verge of being great.

Some bands tend to play straight chord progressions that are stock. Nothing wrong with that when playing the Blues but it gets old after
a fashion. Also if you are doing that the guitar must sing and weep.

They seem to have the IT factor and that doesn't come often when you are playing bluesy soulfull music.

For a two man band I was impressed and for me it takes alot.

Been listening to a vast array of noise since to very early 60's and
some say I could play a bit.

If you like stripped down music with a sound that isn't recyled this band would probably be for you. I heard many influences when listening to them
and even a few Hendrix like blasts. But utimately they have their own sound and it's damned good.

Big B.

Free Music Review: i have it on vinyl
Hit: 5 Stars

The Black Keys have been one of my favorite groups in the past few years. They have taken the two-man approach to exciting moments. They may be the only duo that rivals the White Stripes in a serious way. Like Cream, they are obsessed with early blues. For some reason they have had a million releases and have been on a few different labels. I can't keep up. The quality has always been high. On songs like "Just Got To Be" and "Your Touch" they show us that the fire is still there. "Your Touch" may be one of their best songs. It is simple and powerful. "You're The One" sounds almost like soft psychedelic rock. It has a lot of space and airy mood. "Just A Little Heat" has a little Led Zeppelin type riff. "Modern Times" is another heavy rocker. "Black Door" and "Elevator" are amazing songs to end this with. This record contains everything good about this band. They have struck gold once more. I look forward to the show. Magic Potion may refer to the fact that there is something magical about life and music. When things are going great there is a magical feeling in the air. The Black Keys are a band that can capture that energy.
