Free Music Notes for Spirit of the CenturyFree Music Review: Excellent! EXCELLENT!! Hit: 5 Stars
Wow! I just finished listening to this album for the first time, and it's even better than my already-high expectations. A blending of first-rate gospel singing, fantastic song selection, and excellent blues muscicianship. David Lindley's electric slide guitar (which I've always really liked) and Charlie Musselwhite's harmonica are perfect accompaniment for these wonderful rich voices. Even if you've never bought a gospel ablum, get this one!
Free Music Review: WOW! This is an unexpectedly great record!!! Hit: 5 Stars
No matter what kind of music you like, no matter how cool your tastes are, no matter how old or young you are, you should own this one. Fantastic delivery of Tom Waits' "faux gospel" song Jesus gonna be here. The recording is bright, energetic, spare, moving AND very listenable. Raw, unique and inspired. OK, maybe I'm overdoing it, but this is a recording that will hold up for years to come. Soul, baby.
Free Music Review: Excellent Hit: 5 Stars
An excellent album for fans of Blind Boys of Alabama. I've been a long time fan and follower of the group and this is an outstanding addition to their recording heritage. Sadly, the acclaim that they have so richly deserved has come late in their careers. But better now then never. Note that his is old southern style gospel with plenty of blues and feeling. If you don't like that style, this album may not be for you.
Free Music Review: got those happy feet blues! Hit: 5 Stars
Fantastic album! The Blind Boys never fail to lift my spirits with their rich, well-aged vocals and full blues-gospel sound. I don't believe the Chicago Symphony Center has ever been closer to church than when they were in concert there! The great solo bass line of the opening bars ("Jesus Gonna Be Here") started me grinning and nodding my head, and I don't know if I ever stopped.
Free Music Review: Thank you, David Coverdale! Hit: 5 Stars
I've found these Lord's men music thanks to David Coverdale (Whitesnake). I was reading his board and he had just written some comments. He said he was travelling from his home to Reno to buy a CD of the Blind Boys of Alabama. I've got interested on it and got this album. If you are a rock n' roll fan with an open mind don't miss the opportunity of listening to them. These ol' guys rock!
