Free Music Notes for Spirit of the CenturyFree Music Review: Wow! Hit: 5 Stars
On a previous album, Deep River, the liner notes talk about the efforts by The Five Blind Boys of Alabama to bring their music to a wider audience by building in popular music influences. On this album, they take that philosophy to another level with amazing success.Very rarely does the emotion of live Gospel music survive in recorded form. It does here, no doubt about it!
Free Music Review: Gospel Meets Tom Waits Hit: 5 Stars
The Blind Boys nail the Gospel message with this album. A bit of Tom Waits flavor and plenty of good old Jesus Gospel. The best is Amazing Grace played to the music of The House Of The Rising Sun. But it doesn't end there. What a great message in the #3 song, "Run On For A Long Time." Start to finish, this CD "COOKS." Now this is how "havin' church" should be.
Free Music Review: My sister loved this CD Hit: 5 Stars
She was invited to thier concert in Newcastle, England and she raved so much about thier style of music and sound I went out and bought several albums, My baby sister never steered me wrong, the music is a source of happiness in these times. I could get off on a rant, but I will not :-) her name is Ann she is the Blond sweet thing.......
Free Music Review: Fantastic album Hit: 5 Stars
They just have amazing voices. There are two Tom Waits songs on the album; and while i'm a big fan of Tom Waits, sometimes it's hard to hear how to sing his songs yourself. The Boys bring out their musicality in a way that's accessible for everyone - i can sing those songs in the shower now! ;) Great album!
Free Music Review: Saw this done live it was awesome Hit: 5 Stars
I saw them at Atlanta Midtown Music festival on May 5,2001 and can't wait to hear the CD. This was to be one of the only two live performances of the album with the musicians from the album. It was the best act I heard. If you love the blues you will have to have this gospel recording.
