Free Music Notes for Peace at LastFree Music Review: Genius takes time! Hit: 5 StarsOne of the most underrated bands of all time. What they lack in output, they more than make up in content. Never mediocre, contrived or sold out. They spin their own web, slowly but beautifully. Their artistry is truly brilliant, their integrity intact. By the way, you can get this album at the iTunes store for $9.90 or at the Amazon UK store for ?7.46 plus shipping. To all the greedy sellers who are selling this album new for over $37, up yours! It's bad enough the record companies rip us off with their high prices. You make them look like angels by comparison.
Free Music Review: A Gem Hit: 5 Starsduring the movie "16 years of alcohol" i heard blue nile for the first time and we clicked immediately. "peace at last", "tomorrow morning", "family life"...all with engaging lyrics (though oft muffled until i listen for the 5,000th time)..the quiet truth and sentimentality of almost-a-lullaby "family life" is repeated often though in different musical frameworks like the introspective beginning but fuller, more upbeat, sing along choral ending "...warm earth, blue sky, desert" of "tomorrow morning". a cd i listen to over and over and it still sounds new.
Free Music Review: A somewhat lesser accomplishment still rewards Hit: 4 StarsThough it may be unsurprising that anyone could struggle to live up to the quality of the work on the Blue Nile's first two albums, the music in Peace at Last still occasionally approaches the mood, evocation, and richness we've come to expect from this marvelous duo.
Particularly Happiness, Tomorrow Morning, Love Came Down, Body and Soul (an original composition, not the classic), and Family Life remind us of why we love their music. That their sound is simpler, pared down, and, yes, happier, suggests that the band was trying for something different from their other releases.
Still memorable and strong, this accomplishment is worth the attention.
Free Music Review: 2A Priceless gem" Hit: 5 Stars...Having come to know this band thru the ecstatically good "Walk acros the Rooftops"..their debut album, this phenominally ignored (at least by joe public) trio, are to my ears, simply the BEST new British band of the last 20 years!!!!!!! Ask Peter Gabriel,or Mr. Collins(both Blue Nile fans!)This, "Peace at Last", is their 3rd. 'masterpiece',and ,8 years on from it's release, is STILL ever in my c.d. drawer!
The title song "Peace",is just BEAUTIFUL, thankyou Paul Buchanan, for your fresh & wonderful vocal style(simply NO-ONE else sings like Paul Buchanan)...a voice reminiscent of an early Frank Sinatra-seriously!-but in a modernist way-"Peace at last" is yet another great album in Blue Nile's career.......'Sentimental Man' is my fave cut here, the way Paul emotes this song out of his soul is a lesson for vocalists EVERYWHERE!....'War is love',another timeless epic, beautiful track, indeed.'Holy love',with it's phenomenal synth beats ,is a stupendous original sound...these guys are in a realm most bands just CANNOT copy!,,phew, what an excellent c.d...GET!!!!
P.S. The NEW Blue Nile c.d.("HIGH") IS DUE OUT IN 2 WEEKS-cannot WAIT!!!!!)Meanwhile, get this gem, "Peace at last",..NOW!!!
Free Music Review: Implicit to Explicit Hit: 4 Stars`Blue Nile' CD's are very hard to find in top 40 CD stores; therefore I thought that their pervious CD "Hats" was their last production. Joining Amazon.com a little over a year ago, I recently discovered this CD "Peace At Last" & hurriedly ordered before it also becomes out of print. Reading the main article about this CD & how `Blue Nile' made 3 CD's in 15 years with 2 tours to back everything up is a mind blower. Can I also be an understated genius & get my music produced? No, `Blue Nile' is just one of those under the social-commercial radar groups that influences everyone else that creates a cult following where a few always beg for more.Warning, this CD is different then `Blue Nile's pervious CD's for several reasons which is why there are some negative reviews. I always felt that Paul Buchanan was a Christian, in his earlier CD's he always hinted at it, or had an underlying spiritual point to make. Some of the songs in "Peace at Last" do contain prayers to Jesus or are very Christian in nature, but I think they are done in a tasteful, & in one song "Family Life" in an extremely emotional reflected way. Plus the instrumentation is different; most songs start with a simple acoustic guitar & maybe some drums, but the normal sound of `Blue Nile' creeps, or fades in & out with most of the songs. Less experimentation & sound effects are used, but the electric funk guitar is still there at times. When I first got this CD in the mail from Amazon.com, I just got home from work. I placed "Peace At Last" into the stereo system & took a shower while hearing the music in the background. When I finished the shower, I walked out & heard "Family Life". Never before did I hear Paul Buchanan weep so profoundly to God about the love & value of his family. I had to play it over again, right there & then; never before have I cried when first hearing a song, it normally takes me 3 to 4 listens to get into a song. This morning before I wrote this article, my wife & me were driving to work listening to this CD, when "Family Life" came on; I had to play it over again. With tears in my eyes I said "That is the best song Paul Buchanan ever wrote" & my wife said "That is the best song I ever heard." If all the songs were like this I would give a "5", but the "4" is to warn semi-fans that this time around, `Blue Nile' is different or more explicit. Peace!
