Free Music Notes for Briefcase Full of BluesFree Music Review: Worthless Hit: 1 StarsGreat R&B songs reduced to mindless frat boy hedonism. The SNL skit was amusing at times, but recording albums was an insult to a vital American tradtion and art form. Shame.
Free Music Review: Two comedians put out a more than respectable album. Hit: 5 StarsThough I didn't realize it when I first owned the record as a pre-teen/early teen, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi were backed by some of the best musicians in the business. That, and the fact that Belushi could at least respectably carry a tune (and having a great voice is not the number 1 requirement of the blues), make this a fantastic album. The "Blues Brothers" do some fine interpretations of songs originally done by Sam and Dave, Floyd Dixon, Delbert McClinton, King Floyd, and others. Some of these versions --I think -- are as good if not better than the originals, notably "B Movie Boxcar Blues", which is improved with some great guitar playing by Matt "Guitar" Murphy, and "Hey Bartender", mainly because I prefer blues to jazz and Floyd Dixon's version sounds more like jazz to me. Of course, I'm not sure if the music on this album is so much blues as it is soul; after all, they do sing what became a hit version of "Soul Man". And they also turn King Floyd's funk classic "Groove Me" into a reggae tune complete with Jamaican accents. This album is a classic; don't miss it. (By the way, I'm not a diehard Blues Brothers fan; I could never watch the whole Blues Brother movie because it seemed so lame.)
Free Music Review: Buy this CD! Hit: 5 StarsThis is an awesome CD. I haven't heard all The Blues Brothers CDs so I can't tell you if it's their best one but it's definitely one of the best. The best part about this CD is that it's from a live concert so the crowd is cheering the whole way through. This is a definite must-have.
Free Music Review: jammin jive tunes from the BB Hit: 4 StarsThe tunes generated in this sequel are as good as the first all blues brothers fans should participate in the Audio pleasure of the big band sound with many special guests. Get involved get ready and get serious about including this cd in the collection. You will use it much more than than some of those cd's which were cool at the time.
Free Music Review: A great mixture of the blues, rock, and soul. Hit: 5 StarsThis cd simplifies what the Blues Brothers stood for. They were there in the late 70s to give people an alternative to disco. The tracks on the album (which were taped live) are amazingly well done and one can feel the blues running through them. My personal favorites are Shotgun Blues, Rubber Biscuit, "B" Movie Box Car Blues, and, of course, the #1 hit Soul Man.
