Free Music Review: Another Breeders album to add to the collection

So when my wife picked up the new Breeders album I thought to myself, "Title TK was good but I really don't think they can do it again." Having recently watched "Loud Quiet Loud", the documentary about the Pixies reunion, I wasn't really sure if they should do Breeders again yet. I'd have preferred a new Pixies album first, but that wasn't going to happen. Once the disc entered the CD player I was hooked... The Breeders are back and better than ever! "We're gonna rise" is probably the high point of the album... if there is one as all the songs, being very different from one another, mesh together so well. "Regalame esta noche" is fantastic! I haven't heard Deal sister pipes like that in a long time!
"Bang on" is... well... bang on! Suprisingly, there isn't one song on here that I would say was "ehh..." or "so so". Pod has two "ehh..." songs, Last splash has one "so so" and Title TK has one "ehh..." and two "So So"s Just so you know I'm not biased!

Limited Deluxe digipack edition of the Alternative Rock band's 2008 album, their fourth overall. Please note the 2 CD version has been withdrawn. The album also marks the return of both Kim and Kelley Deal since 1993's Last Splash. Regarded by some to be one of the most unique Alternative Rock groups of the '90s, the band are best known for their melodic and off-kilter songs. The combination of memorable guitar hooks and Kim Deal's sweet vocals, perfectly encapsulate the band's strengths and individuality. Mountain Battles was recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago, Erika Larson at Stagg Street, Manny Nieto at Manny's Studio, at Refraze in Dayton and by Ben Mumphrey in the Basement. Includes the single 'We're Gonna Rise'. 4AD.Breeders fans waited six years for Mountain Battles, a recording that nonetheless offers instant satisfaction, cherry-picking many of the lasting and likeable elements from the band's three previous albums that were released across nearly two decades. Twins sisters Kim and Kelley Deal haven't sounded as healthy and at ease since their 1994 hit "Cannonball." Yes, they still get those meaty hooks in you--Mountain Battles' "It's The Love" begs equally for radio frequency--but some tracks suggest a future that cuts a wider swath. "Here No More" evokes the classic country of the Carter Family while "Regalame Esta Noche" features Spanish lead vocals by the not-usually-Spanish-speaking Kelley. Not to be outdone, Kim takes to German for the peculiar "German Studies," a garage rocker ? la 2002's Title TK. The rest of the songs, from the Who-like "Overglazed," to the techno-poppy "Bang On," and "Walk It Off"--powered by a memorable bass line--are classic Breeders, who appear to be many years away from their literal last splash. --Scott Holter
