Free Music Notes for Mountain BattlesFree Music Review: Fabulosisimo Hit: 5 StarsI am so stoked about Mountain Battles. The music is better than I could have hoped. I know this is crazy but I put off buying Last Splash for some reason and then realized a few months ago that I must have it When I called to inquire about a used copy, the place told me they had a new album coming out. What a pleasant surprise. And they were touring to boot! (By the way, the show was really fantastic.)
About the album: I agree that it took me a while to get into it, but I absolutely love it. All of the songs have their redeeming qualities, save Regalame Esta Noche. It just seems a bit awkward. But the other songs are fantastic. When I'm listening to it, I have a hard time deciding which song to start on. Very difficult to choose, but here are my top five favorite: It's the Love, No Way, Night of Joy, Bang On, Overglazed. My only criticism is that the album art is terrible. I think it does not go at all with the album. I'm sorry, when I think of "Mountain Battles," it doesn't have a darn thing to do with glass.
Free Music Review: 5 yrs too late, but i'm still happy! Hit: 5 Starsthe deal sisters do it again. such restrained beauty and lyricism.
they combine some elements from TITLE TK -- the restraint and spareness, the abilty to make important what has been peeled back and revealed, the wheat from the chaffe. they also weave in the hookier, more melodic vocals into this mix that were prominent on the earlier songs, throw in overdubs, and a tough of gloss.
most importantly, they still take risks.
kudos to the crazy twins. they take some of the more hyped indie bands to the wood pile with this one. listen up youngsters!
Free Music Review: Complete awful rubbish Hit: 1 StarsI saw a free Breeders concert at Waterloo Park here in Austin during SXSW and thought they were pretty good. They played alot of songs I hadn't heard before and at the time I didn't know they had a new album comming out. I decided to get Mountain Battles to give it a try. They're playing at Emo's tomorrow night and thought I'll listen to the album to see if they're worth paying $19.50 for. This album is awful. It sounds uninspired and boring and it makes me ask the question why did the two sisters even get back together to write an all new album if they didn't have any good ideas. No songs are good on this at all. Awful music and awful lyrics. This album has absolutly no substance to it. I will not be at The Breeders show tomorrow night (which is good because I'm broke).
Pod and Last Splash are classics. A Calssic this is not.
Free Music Review: Wow... this is way cool! Hit: 5 StarsI am about the most die hard Pixies fan there is... I've seen them perhaps 10+ times.... I've also seen their solo progress evolve... BOTH KICK ARSE!!!!......They are both BRILLIANT in their own right..... Ok.... So I bought both "Mountain Battles" and "Seven Fingers" at the same time..... I have to say.... First Impression.....Kim is kickin' major arse!!!..
Who is better???!!! Frank or Kim?? Paul or John????
What a great night!!!...
Free Music Review: ...cool as kim deal. Hit: 5 Starsi'm unsure as to the reason for the slow love here, but i too fell into this album on the 3rd or 4th visit.
experimental, you say? really? have you listened to kim's other ventures? and um, there was this other project she once did with these other kids in the 80's...call me crazy (everyone usually does), but i think its far more progressive than it is experimental.
the vocals are raw and robust and right on..from both cooler than anyone could ever hope to be sisters. love the songs featuring kelly's vocals too. miss the 6000, but gotta love this one.
it might be a hard listen for a new listener, but any fan should, i think, get it. and the gettin's good, my fellow fanatics.
do yourself a favor (and the girls...by buying, not stealing) get this disc or d/l (but seriously, dont steal it...its more than worth the ten bucks).
thanks kim & co. for another chilling adventure through your head via your amazing voice and instrumentation! hope to see you play some drums on tour!
