Free Music Notes for Title TkFree Music Review: A grow-er, not a show-er. Hit: 4 StarsWow. I didn't realize how much people didn't like this one until I started reading the reviews today. You can see, though, that the reviews are getting better and better with time. That says something.
This is one of those recently rare albums that you listen to all the way through, maybe on repeat, until it seeps into your surroundings and infuses your world with its rhythms and colors. For the sake of comparison, other albums I put in this category include Dylan's "Desire" and The Velvet Underground's third, eponymous release. "Title TK" is a mood, and a complex mood at that: melancholy yet whimsical, impressionistic yet precise.
I think this one is going to sneak up on people and become a cult classic in 15 years. Just a hunch.
Free Music Review: rhythm by arithmatec Hit: 5 Starstoday i'm pleased with amazon.com; seeing so many 5 star ratings for this masterpiece and reviving (at least partially) my faith in humanity. the way this record got bashed by reviwers, and subsequently by scenester morons, just blew my mind. this record is genius. but let's be honest, people who claim to be on the cutting edge of things are scared to death of change and people who change it up. everyone wanted another 'last splash' something that was more like the pixies but instead they got the most logical progression and smoothest transition i've ever experienced as a fan of a particular act. the sparse sound and minimalist leanings of this record are not its downfall; it is the record's genius and salvation. this is kim deal laid open for the world to see and i am in absolute awe. i have always felt the breeders surpassed the pixies, not in terms of influence and popularity, but simply on the merit of their work...it's not as cool to like the breeders more, but they're just better. the pixies were a rock band and the breeders are rocket sciencetesters. this record is kim deal's masterpiece: honest, bare, playful, a bit odds and pure genius. people talk about the pop brilliance of ms. deal and the pixies but if those same people can't recognize a song like "too alive" for its stunted, stuttering genius, then they didn't really understand why deal was so rare and valuable in the first place...and if "off you" doesn't break your heart, then you have no soul. one of the most charming, beautiful, sad, correct, staggering records i've ever heard; traigcally underestimated (not by folks here, however).
Free Music Review: Best Breeders album. offers something other albums don't. Hit: 5 StarsIf you have heard the Breeders before and not like them, maybe not thinking that they only give females a satisfaction you are wrong. the instruments in this album speak to eachother, especially the guitars in The She. the guiatrs talking to eachother are Space creature puppets talking, exploring the earth, philosophy of the earth blending. travelers of the earth. the sisters harmonies blend perfectly like no others. it works. little fury best representation of this. Off you amazing. wacthing sunset punch drunk in an unpretentious way, feeling the salt some out of your mouth, just washed up from the storm. this time the talking guitar is now more the background thoughts coming together of the memories that the lyrics unfield to whatever may pertain to you abstractly or directly. this song is completion and meant so much to me in certain times if was my onyl friend (I know that sounds cheasy) any suggestions. let me hear your music.
Free Music Review: Better I stayed up.... Hit: 5 StarsAfter a 9 year hiatus Kim Deal returned to alternative rock with this underappreciated and undersold gem. After cashing those "Cannonball" royalty checks the Deal twins return with a mellow but still rocking 3rd album. Yeah, 3rd album in their twelve year existence. Talk about a long wait inbetween albums. But it's easy to see that Kim and Kelley carefully plan their albums.
Kim's voice has grown alot (not in a good/bad way) since we last heard her on a formal record, 93' Last Splash. The cigarette wear and tear and alcohol abuse has done damage to her voice, but it makes it quite endearing. Deal has always had the most interesting female vocals in alternative rock and is arguably the most talented of her former band, the Pixies.
In all, it was good to see the Breeders back for such a short period of time and who knows when Deal will crawl back out to deliver another batch of rockin' songs.
Free Music Review: The Breeders produce great music! Hit: 5 StarsI love this cd as much as Last Splash, but I don't listen to this one as much because it's a lot more mellow. I bought this album having figured that all the band's music was high-energy rock'n'roll. Even though I can't always undrstand the lyrics, at least the Breeders music is complex and interesting.
