Free Music Notes for The Cars - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Just what we all needed...Let the good times ROLLLLLL! Hit: 5 StarsThe cars were one of the most popular pop/rock bands to grace the stage in their time...their music wasn't over the top, but at the same time some of their more emotional, heartfelt tracks were not near as sappy as the competition. When I listen to this greatest hits album, I'm not drowning in songs about love, woman, cars, betrayal, or anger, I'm simply having a rocking good time!
The track "Since your gone" is one of my favorites, it's a slower paced song but we still are able to tap our foot to a good beat and the guitars aren't discombobilating into a mess of fuzz. Lead Singer Ric Ocasek's vocals aren't about range so much as power. All the hits are here, from "Let the good times roll" and "Just what I needed" to "My best friends girl" "Shake it up" and "Magic" There are a variety of greatest hits and best of compilations out there of "The Cars" but I always liked this one the best. In an industry where so much is changing and often not for the better, the Cars tenure stands the test of time and is something to savor perhaps compared to some of the "rock" music that is out there today. 13 fun foot-tapping tracks for one to relish.
Free Music Review: the cars greatest hits Hit: 4 StarsThe Cars Greatest Hits is a good overview of The Cars career, the only released one more album after this complation. The Cars Greatest Hits has all the songs you would expect to be here. All of the big hit singles, as well as a new song,"Tonight She Comes." This would a good starting place for the casual fan, if you enjoy this you should buy their first album as well.
Free Music Review: Obsolote because of newer, better comp Hit: 4 StarsThe Cars had kind of two personalities over their career: the pop hits like "Drive" and "Shake it Up" and the album tracks that classic rock radio still plays like "Moving in Stereo" and "You're All I've Got Tonight". This album is great if you ONLY want the pop material...all the Top 40 hits are here...but if you like any of their best album material at all, you'll be much better off with the CD "Complete Greatest Hits" (ASIN B00005Y1XY) which sacrifices only lesser track "Heartbeat City" from this one and then adds on several great tracks you don't get here:
"Bye Bye Love", "You're all I've Got Tonight" and "Moving in Stereo" from the debut, CANDY-O's "Dangerous Type" and "It's All I Can Do",HEARTBEAT CITY's "Hello Again" (and "Why Can't I Have You?" if you happen to like that one..I consider it a lesser effort), and even a track from the farewell album DOOR TO DOOR ("You are the Girl").
If such things matter to you, they also come in chronological order (though those prone to whining about it could always program their CD player or burn a copy for the car in the "correct" order).
BOTTOM LINE:
If you like the Cars, this one doesn't serve them as well for a single disc compilation as "Complete Greatest Hits" does. Get that one instead.
Free Music Review: This IS the compilation to own! Hit: 5 StarsWonderful...thoughtful...intelligent pop. The Cars epitomise an 80's feel that, unlike many of their peer groups, still makes great listening. I wore out the album, and this CD has a brilliant "bonus track, "Heartbeat City," which is worth the cost of the entire CD. Songs like "Drive" and "Tonight She Comes" don't need me to recommend them...it's a classic CD.
Free Music Review: The ultimate New Wave poseurs (its a compliment!) Hit: 5 StarsThese guys sound like they came straight out of Liverpool or Manchester. The fact that Ric Ocasek and the boys were really from the United States escaped me for quite some time. As a youngster growing up surrounded by the New Wave sound in the early 80s, the Cars fit right in.
Their catchy hooks, songwriting skill, and overall musical talent were second to none, and this greatest hits compilation is packed with pop gems: "You Might Think" (their biggest hit ever), "Drive", "Good Times Roll", and "Magic" are all present. "Shake it Up" (my fave) and "Tonight She Comes" will have your toes tapping, and there isn't a bad track on the CD.
This is one compilation that will definitely stay in your player for awhile. Worth every penny!
