Free Music Review: Otherworldly beauty
Hit: 5 Stars

Most of the time when I review popular culture products, whether books, games or music, I do my utmost to lean towards a middle rating. I am very sensitive to the momentary passions that can affect a person for a short period upon which the cold glare of a dawn many years later leads to "What was I thinking? They're not that good at all!"

The Chameleons do not fall in that category. Once a fan, one tends to remain a fan forever. They really are that good.

The real challenge for any Chameleon's LP is trying to pick up a weak spot. They are talented musicians and lyricists, with great guitar harmonics and haunting lyrics of exceptional quality attacking the mundane and the inhumane at every opportunity.

This LP is an excellent selection from their first three LPs and a great way to introduce newcomers to their distinctive sound which, as correctly noted by others, does have familiarity to those who've experienced The Fall, the Psychedelic Furs and The Church.

One does struggle to pick favourites from this LP, even given the the relative diversity of style available. There's the soft and semi-acoustic "Tears", the terrors of "A Person Isn't Safe Anywhere These Days" and "Second Skin", the anomie in "Monkeyland", and the passionate "Nostalgia" and "In Shreds".

Yes, there's all this and more. Buy this and you will not be disappointed.

As a fresh ear on this band my review might be a little more objective than people who were there at the time. To me this band sounds like a mix of Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure, and Psychadelic Furs. I'm not saying they are derivitive (every band is influenced by something though) but they sound like a product of their time. I would say that the Chameleons never hit the peak of the "hits" of the previously mentioned bands, which probably explains why they are not as well known. However, they do have very solid and good songs throughout. I would say that their "best of" is a more solid offering than that of Psychadelic Furs, the Chameleons just don't have the really high points. If you like similar music, this band is deffinitely worth checking out and why not start with this compilation?

Free Music Review: A good compilation by a great band

This one is a great way to check out The Chameleons. The classics are there, Swamp Thing and Second Skin, along with Tears, and of course In Shreds.

If you can, get the copy with the 2nd disk. The Bsides seem rather mediocre at the moment. But if you love the Chameleons, you'll want to have it. They are yet to grow on me, but then I didn't take to 'What Does Anything Mean?', and now love that album.

The Chameleons are a timeless band, one that got me through some pretty tough times. Get their stuff if you can. Get it!!!!

Oh, P.S. That B-sides disk to Return of the Roughnecks is actually pretty good.

Free Music Review: chameleons best + one of the best Ep`s ever
Hit: 5 Stars

It`s so hard to find the Tony Fletcher walked on water E.P that if you don`t do it ,this is the best choice. An expensive choice indeed but you get a chameleons compilation plus 3 of their best songs in their career that maybe you had`nt heard of.My advice...if you got the money spend it here, this cd will top your collection. The healer is the best 7 minute pop rock song i ever heard to date, worth the entire disc,a rarity almost impossible to find anywhere in the internet.Proof of chameleons music to be created for a reduced selected, fortunate and loyal army of fans.
When you get addicted to this band it doesn`t matter how expensive their releases are.
