Free Music Notes for Combat RockFree Music Review: the Clash's worst! Hit: 2 StarsI bought most of the Clash's albums upon their original release (including this one). Their music continually evolved, however, that evolution took a wrong turn with this album. It wasn't inventive like London Calling (yes you whipper snappers, nothing like it had been put out till then - we all realize that a lot of stuff since then has borrowed that sound) or experimental like Sandinista. Quite frankly, it's just a dumb album. I gave it two stars because it was the Clash, anyone else would have warranted less.
Free Music Review: THE WORST CLASH ALBUM Hit: 2 StarsIt really started to show that the Clash was pretty much over after this album. Even though it contains their 2 biggest songs "Should I Stay" and "Casbah" the rest is really bad. The only other good song is Atom Tan. They just sound too tired to write any good riffs and you can hear them just running out of steam. Well they had a great 5 year run and alot of great songs but this is not the one to get. This makes the throwaways on Sandinista look good.
Free Music Review: is it 2004 or 1982 Hit: 5 StarsI KNOW IT IS CONSIDERED THE CLASH'S SELLOUT ALBUM. BUT I FIRST HEARD IT IN 1982 AS A 12 YEAR OLD. WHAT A FREAKIN INFLUENCE. POLITICAL. HELLO, THEY HAVE INFLUENCED ME SINCE. FIRST ALBUM TO GET ME INTO SO CALLED PUNK ROCK. LED TO INTEREST OF DEAD KENNEDYS, MINOR THREAT, ETC. I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO PUNK/HARDCORE/INDIE SINCE THIS FREAKIN ALBUM. I AM 33 AND LOOK BACK AT THE EARLY CLASH CATALOUGE AND AM AMAZED. THEN KIDS WERE LISTENING TO OZZY. JUST LIKE TODAY. ISN'T IT IRONIC. THIS ALBUM WAS A GODSEND FOR A LOWER MIDDLE CLASS WHITE KID, NO MATTER HOW MUCH CASH THE CLASH WAS MAKING FROM IT. HELL, IT HAS INLUENCED ME TO COMPREHEND MARXIST THEORY AS A BRAINWASHED AMERICAN. WHAT CAN I SAY, THIS ALBUM WAS THE START FOR ME. SO, I HAVE TO GIVE IT THE HIGHEST RATING. BY THE WAY, FIRST ALBUM TO ACTUALLY CAUSE ME TO WRITE A REVIEW. MY TRIBUTE TO JOE STRUMMER. BYE.
Free Music Review: Combat Rock 22 years later Hit: 3 StarsThis album was, and is still living proof that if you let your politics take control over your identity it's bound to catch up on you. Seriously, what do you think Karl Marx thought finding out that his whole philosophy was taken over by capitalism? Turning over in his grave I suppose. Isn't it ironic however that there isn't a single track on this record that blamed the force of capitalism like the extremly socialist "Magnificent Seven" or " If Music Could Talk" off The Clash's tribute to the left "Sandinista".I never denied the fact that The Clash had a distinct sound and quality. Every good band needs an identity that can last them through . The Clash's major problem was in thier apperance. They came out as neo-socialist anarchists where their politics took domination over their music. The only exception was 1979s "London Calling" where the politics had taken a back seat to musical singularity but they were still evident. This album was never a bad album but an embarrassment for the left. The Clash still attacked America's foreign policy, blamed the establistment and wrote the most militant anti-military anthems. The Clash tried to experiment with thier music and boldly go where no other band could go. In someway that is the cardinal rule for any musician. But when your stricted politics (Politically and Musically) are not able to change it's tough to please everyone without losing credibility. I just never understood why it was so easy for The Clash to protest the government but when your own album is making tons of money you let it slide. You have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything comes in mind most distinctly when I hear this album twenty two years later.
Free Music Review: The Only Album i would rate a 4 Hit: 4 StarsThis albums music suffered. The Ideas and politics stayed the same. I love the politics the music could get better. The next album is better no question. Buy that one next and you would be better off.
