Free Music Notes for Give 'em Enough Rope
Free Music Review: Big guitars, big drums, fine production
Hit: 5 Stars
Pearlman's production works wonders for the sound of the band, and the band came up with excellent songs.
Okay the details:
The first three songs are all top notch hard rock:
- Safe European Home: Punk, but anchored on a reggae riff near the end. Lyrics about a trip to Jamaica gone bad.
- English Civil War: Something of a heavy punk take on When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
- Tommy Gun: Another punk anthem. Impressive drumming.
The next one doesn't explode like the first three, but it's cool:
- Julie's in the Drug Squad. It has boogie-woogie piano. Kind of a sign of the band's desire to genre-hop. Insanely catchy riff.
-Last gang in town: Okay it's a weaker track finally. The guitar is somewhat interesting though.
-Guns on the Roof: Another big explosive punk song. Like "Clash City Rockers" it has the riff from the Who's "I Can't Explain" in it.
-Drug Stabbing Time: Another powerful punk song.
-Stay Free: Mick sings this one. A fine ballad with hard rock guitar in parts.
-Cheapskates: Not quite as great as the others, but some impressive guitar riffs again, especially near the end.
-All the Young Punks: A good, slower hard rock song. Pretty fancy songwriting, with a nice use of both Joe's and Mick's voices. A good end to the album.
