I thoroughly enjoy listening to this "Color Purple" CD. I loved the movie and have the DVD, but hearing the various songs that depict scenes in the movie are wonderful and make it all come alive again! Listening to the CD is the next best thing to being able to actually go to the Broadway production. I hope they will bring the production to our local Victoria Broadway series here in Dayton, Ohio.Free Music Review: very inspiring !

i bought this cd after i bought tickets to see this show on broadway. this is a must have for any broadway show lover like me the music and lyrics are very moving and heartfelt the songs are easy to listen to and not hard to follow the cast is amazing on this cd . i can't stop listening to this wonderful and inspiring musical and work of pure art !Free Music Review: Superb! After reading some of the reviews on this site, I felt that I had to do the show justice by adding my two cents! IT WAS GREAT!!!! I've seen it twice so far and I've made a pact with myself that everytime that I'm in NYC.....I WILL SEE IT! I find myself playing the soundtrack while on my way to the grocery store. I sing the songs while I'm shopping. I thought that the soundtrack was EXCELLENT! Of course, as The Color Purple (Speilberg) fans, we are all predisposed to the original soundtrack. You have to listen with a new pair of ears and an open mind! Once I did that, I was hooked! It helps me re-live the musical over and over and over until I am able to see it again. Anyone who listens to this soundtrack and doesn't have a tingle inside by the end......there is no hope!Free Music Review: Fabulous!!

I went into the show with much pessimism - not only had the reviews been less than kind - but I had been a run of underwhelming musicals. By the time this show was done I knew that this show was far better than I had expected and the critics were way off base. The best thing about this show was the music which had much variety, much feeling and did what the music in a show should do - it advanced the plot. Having just listened to the CD the whole musical was relived in my head, and I liked it even more this time!! If you liked the show, I can think of no better souvenir. If you are on the line about seeing it, let this CD do the convincing for you (and buy tickets!!)
