Free Music Review: TCM, The Creation and The Evolution

I'm a diehard TCM fan. I have read many reviews, ranging from detailed dissections and song-by-song analyses, to immature commentary, and everything in between. To me, the best way to sum up the latest TCM creation is to appreciate TCM overall, as a culture, and specifically, to accept this CD as part of TCM's ongoing evolution as artists and participants in our changing times. Their music has earned many genre descriptives such as rave, trance, techno, ambient. It is all of that, as well as a compilation of personal preferences, environmental and background influences, and an entrepreneurial, free-form spirit that seeks to indulge and break through expectations and conventions. Songs that do not particularly speak to my fancy for subjective reasons have nonetheless earned their right to be appreciated. The perfect analogy for this is how I feel about opera. I would not just pop in an opera as an every day listening choice. Rather, I would research an opera, understand the story being told and associated background or history, and then appreciate the production as an art form in its own right. That is how I judge TCM songs that don't rank as my personal favorites. They are part of TCM, and as such, have earned their right for due consideration and approval. Interestingly, repetitive listening to their music has always increased my liking of those songs I would rank less than favorite. I have thoroughly enjoyed this CD as part of TCM's journey into their creative spirits and look forward to their next production.
