Free Music Notes for FaithFree Music Review: Timeless Hit: 5 StarsDark, Dreamy, Moody, Depressing all these things mixed to perfection, you cant help but lay back, and get lost in this album. The songs seem to flow perfectly from track to track, it truly is a masterpiece, an ode to the depressed. "The Drowning man" , "Faith", "The Funeral Party" and my personal favorite, "All Cats Are Grey", I feel that these 4 songs are something out of the ordinary, not everyday you get an album that has so many perfect songs and that no matter how much you hear it, everytime you put it on, its like the first time. If people knew how many nights I have gone to sleep, with All Cats Are Grey in repeat, listening to it like 100 times in a row, I think I would be put in an insane asylum. But thats just how much I love and cherish the material on "Faith", Its almost as if the band opens up a dimension and lets you feel exactly how they felt as they recorded the album. Get this album, but beware, it is highly addictive.
Free Music Review: Dancing at the funeral party. Hit: 4 StarsIt's certainly a difficult task to determine my personal favourite out of Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography, as each album has it's own appeal and significance depending on the moment. This, the second installment in the trilogy (what most Cure fans consider the trilogy, anyway), sounds exactly as the cover looks. Grey, hazy, bleak, depressing, reflective, moody..however it is quite a gentle album. Sort of the calm before the storm that is Pornography.I don't like to do this very often, but perhaps a song-by-song review of this album would help people decide whether it holds anything of interest for them: The Holy Hour: 8/10 Not a bad introduction, rather minimalist, strong focus on the bass guitar running through a flanger. I like the lyrics. Primary: 7.5/10 One of the singles, not my favourite but by no means a bad song. It is a little more 'upbeat' than some of the other tracks on this album. Other Voices: 8.5/10 The other of the singles, and the better one. Slower, more structured, more of a build up of intensity. All Cats Are Grey: 9/10 This track I enjoy, particularly late at night with the lights out and candles going. It's just so gentle, you can close your eyes and be taken away by the music. The Funeral Party: 9/10 Much like the previous track. Gorgeous lyrics, minimalist yet so lush. Doubt: 7/10 ....and just as Robert begins to lull you to sleep, he smacks you in the side of the face with this jagged, crude and jolty little nightmare. By no means a bad song, just seemingly out of place straight after two beautiful, keyboard-driven slow songs. The Drowning Man: 8/10 Depressing. Those who indulge in their own problems on a regular basis should be advised to skip this track. Faith 8.5/10: Again, depressing. But then again, so is this album. Many consider this to be the best song on here...Personally, I'm not so sure. Some days I find the music to be rather monotonous and dragging, yet other days it seems to have a certain mood about it that many of the others songs lack. I hope this helped you.
Free Music Review: Stone White Clown Hit: 5 StarsThe third proper album from The Cure proves that they just seem to keep getting into deep and darker waters musically. This album is for the most part a sonic improvement over Seventeen Seconds, and Robert Smith has definitely matured as a lyricist as most of the songs now are actually poetic (still keeping this in mind with what they made two album's ago; Boys Don't Cry). Although this album is primarily made up of slow sad songs, there are a couple rockin' ones on here that are reminiscent of the Boys Don't Cry poppiness, but don't worry these songs are good, continue reading. Overall I think this is probably my second favorite Cure album after Pornography. Faith, Pornography and Disintegration are the epitome of The Cure at it's best. It's just unfortunate that so many albums down the road are really only mediocre compared to these great middle-albums. Faith is essential.
Free Music Review: An Often Wrongfully Dismissed Masterpiece Hit: 5 StarsThe reviews here that claim this is unmelodious, boring, and cold obviously do not understand this type of music. Anyone who complains about the cold, dark nature of this album should not have purchased it in the first place. This is absolutely beautiful minimalist post-punk/goth rock. No other band has ever come close to achieving the overall feel of this album. "All Cats are Gray", "The Funeral Party", "The Drowning Man", and "Faith" are defining moments in this musical genre and in the Cure's glorious career. If you like sad, slow, soft, atmospheric, introspective music, you simply will not be disappointed with this CD. It grows more beautiful with each and every listen. Do not bother reading reviews by people who should be reviewing pop music.
Free Music Review: You gotta have Faith. Hit: 4 StarsAre you looking for the dark, the goth, the winter day Cure? This is it. Along with "Seventeen Seconds" and "Disintegration", this is that kind of Cure. It even makes "Head on the Door" and "Bloodflowers" seem happy. It's just one of those albums that brings to mind snow, depression, a cemetary. Just read the track listing. You know it's not going to be "Friday I'm in love". There are 2 upbeat, more punk-ish numbers, but they only enhance the other 6 songs. I would never get rid of this for "All cats are grey" alone. Also, if you can get this on cassette, side 2 has the 27 minute b-side "Carnage Visors". There are too many good Cure albums to say this is the best, but it's as neccessary as any of the others. Enjoy.
