Free Music Notes for The David Johansen Group LiveFree Music Review: Buy this one not the other one Hit: 5 Stars
I just bought this CD again having lost my old copy. You either are or aren't a fan but if you are this is the CD to have to memorialize those days and I couldn't live without mine. Plus it evokes memories of those good old days at the Bottom Line. I agree with the other reviewer who says the mix is off , and on first listen I had the same thought but the more you play it in the car the more you come to appreciate that it sounds this way. This is rougher, louder and preferable to the slicker "Live It Up" Live CD and you come to like it that it is that way. Just listen to the two versions of "Donna" and you'll see. This is rarely out of my car player.
Free Music Review: A Classic CD Hit: 5 Stars
Anyone interested in the Punk rock movememnt, or simply appreciates good solid rock and roll should buy this CD. David Johansen is an underrated singer and lyricist who played an important part in the New York music scene in the 70's. Classic songs like Cool Metro and Frenchette sand out . Enjoy the music. Enjoy the fun.
Free Music Review: Great song collection Hit: 5 Stars
I wore out "Live it Up", and wanted a new David Jo live. Quality is excellent, and closer to his Dolls period with familiar musicians. As another reviewer said, David just knows great songs and rocks them out. Frenchette is super special, and you will just play the whole thing through.
Free Music Review: David Johansen Group - 'Live' (Lemon) Hit: 4 Stars
Never even knew about this CD,until here recently. Was recorded sometime in July,1978 at the THEN famed Bottom Line Club in New York City.SO much better than any of his tuxedoed nightclub crooning alter-ego Buster Pointdeter efforts(please,David, let that one go).Anyway, there's three(3)former New York Dolls members on this CD.Is this right?Johansen on vocals and Johnny Thunder(R.I.P.)along with Sylvain Sylvain on guitar. Many good songs included in this live set,a Foundations classic "Build Me Up Buttercup",plus of course some Dolls numbers like "Personality Crisis","Looking For A Kiss" and "Babylon".Nice archive release.
Free Music Review: A ton of Fun Hit: 4 Stars
Buster Poindexter was fun but also had a very limited shelf life. The newer Blues records are cool but hard to get too excited about.
This record is a ton of fun and stands head to head with Live It Up as David Johansen's best solo releases. I highly recommend it.
