What can you say about the Biz Markie. He's fat, he's eclectic and his Annonciation is sub par to say the least, but what the Biz lacks in grace he more than makes up for in charisma.
This Elder statesman of the New York Hip-hop scene shows his full lyrical potential on this album. Along with his Cousin who makes up the second half this "dynamic" Duo, Cutmaster cool V, the two of them have managed to produce an album of quality beats, catchy hooks and sometimes hilarious rhymes. Think Tribe Called quest meets Fat Albert and the Gang (which insidently is reffered to on the classic tune Mudfoot).
All in all if you dont like the biz's style you'll be more than amused with his choice of subject matter and delivery. A worth while buy.
The Biz Never Sleeps Poster
The clown prince of hip-hop, Biz Markie disappeared into obscurity just a couple of years after this album was released, in large part owing to a legal battle. Hip-hop has lacked for Biz's absence (except for his occasional appearance on a Beastie Boys or De La Soul track), and this album is the reason. Biz had some serious skills (listen to the rap he busts out with on the hilarious "Mudd Foot"), but he usually shelved them for a deliberate, toned-down delivery punctuated by an affected stutter. His lyrics tend toward high-school-level humor, and his production may often be minimal, but Biz's best work--including the bulk of this CD--communicates a joy that hip-hop often lacks. --Randy SilverR&B Music CDs
