Free Music Notes for VisiterFree Music Review: Hooray rhythm! Hit: 5 StarsIf, like me, you were wishing for the next big tribal folk rock band to show up, our prayers have been heard. Wow, this album is good. Even though I've had my ears to the ground waiting for something grand to approach, this one tip toed past me. This album is epic. It's progressive and repetitious, subtle though outrageous, soft yet thunderous. The music in this album is so shiny gold I see my reflection shining back at me every time I listen to it. All right, I think that's enough metaphors...
"The Season" is my favorite song. Half this album features progressive six minute plus opuses. "The Season" is such. It's perfect from start to finish. It doesn't quite start off subtle. It grabbed at me immediately. The repetitious guitar melody and rhythmic clicking were hypnotic that I was in a trance. After a few lyrics, the tribal chants returned me to my stupor. The song progresses and the clicks become pounding drums, the lyrics become louder, the chants become screams and the soft picking crescendos into frantic strumming. It's awesome. "Jody" is another six plus minute opus worth calling out. The picking at the beginning is awesome. The pounding drums signal the song to begin to form. The bridge to the chorus is great.
"Park Song" is short but sweet. There's subtle, palm mute plucking and whispered vocals. "Walking," the opener, is probably the purist that Dodos approach folk. It kind of reminds me of a Willy Mason song. I love the banjo they used in it. "God?" is great. "God?" is good. "Joe Waltz," "Winter," "Fools," "Paint The Rust," "Red And Purple" all demand to be adored.
There are at least ten stellar tracks on this record. Some others are slight filler or one minute songs, which is to me is too short. Despite that though, this album is amazing. If you liked "Love Is Simple" by Akron/Family last year, you'll probably like "Visit" by Dodos even better. If you like this kind of music, check out Plants And Animals too. What a great year.
Free Music Review: awesome Hit: 5 StarsThis has been by far my favorite new album of the year. If you haven't heard these guys yet, you will be extremely happy when you finally do.
