Free Music Review: The music will never be over
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a Doors fan for over thirty-five years. This album is a treat. (I called it an album instead of a CD - I'm showing my age.) Two full performances and two completely different shows. JDM is drunk? So what? This album brings the Doors true performance out - not like the sterilized yet nonetheless entertaining staple "Absolutely Live". I sat and listened just to find out, as the audiences did, what Jim would do next. I LMAO at Jim singing "blah, blah, blah" to Light My Fire.
But the Doors weren't just Jim Morrison and his band as some people would have you believe. There were three extremely talented musicians that made the music for his words and entertained us w/ improvised jams while JDM was "briefly incapacitated" during his performance. And I listened to the solos and thought: "Where have I heard these guys, this DOORS sound, before?"

Of course - "Riders On The Storm", formerly known as "Doors of the 21st Century."

If you haven't seen Ray and Robby play in their new incarnation as "Riders On The Storm", then you MUST. You won't see Jim but you'll hear the Doors and you'll know that it wasn't just Jim that made the Doors great.

Buy this record!

Go see Ray and Robby and "Riders On The Storm"!

Rock on "Riders".

Rock on "Ray and the Sex Machines"!

Free Music Review: Heavenly in its brilliance....
Hit: 5 Stars

This is not a greatest hits package. This is not a studio album. This is a cd of two unedited performances....and it is brilliant. Morrison drunk without a net and wavering between goddamn genius and drunk stupidity. These performances do a great job of showcasing Morrison's sense of humor and his abilities as a frontman. This is not Jim Morrison-the Lizard King, it is Morrison-the Changeling and the crowd is with him the whole time. The first show even has its moments despite the fact that Morrison doesn't even bother to sing the lyrics to Five to One, instead using his rap from their cover of Gloria. The second show is awesome and when listened to as a singular concert experience it is even more powerful. I like the Detroit Show, but it 's too safe, this album represents all the different facets of Morrison's personality and his soul: the charming poet, shy schoolboy, redneck, exhibitionist, lovable rogue, class clown and drunk. I find it funny that people love Morrison for his words and his insight, but they can't deal with the reality of what shaped his vision and altered his perception. It's kinda like saying..."William S. Burroughs is a great writer and I love his books, but I saw him at a reading and he was strung out on heroin." DUH...

Free Music Review: Fun show! One of the best of the 70 tour
Hit: 5 Stars

This is by far my favorite show released by Bright Midnight! By 1970, the Doors were forced to toe the line after Miami and most of the shows were somewhat sedated compared the to '68 tour. The Boston and Felt Forum shows are definitely the most exciting and energetic shows from 1970. Yes, Morrison is blasted during both sets but in good spirits - rapping with the audience and playfully telling one of the girls to shut up during at the start of Mystery Train. The highlight for me is the song they play right before the power is cut. The band is playing the music to Maggie McGill but Morrison sings the lyrics to "Been Down So Long" and also adds some improvised lyrics.

Overall, I think even casual Doors fans will like this show. The other Bright Midnight releases are great quality but lack the excitement of Live at Boston Arena (now Northeastern U. Mathews Arena). Also pick up the Felt Forum box set. The last show from 1/18/1970 is amazing.

Free Music Review: Boston Arena ~ April 10, 1970
Hit: 5 Stars

I am always ALWAYS a big fan of all live recordings from The Doors. I initially started listening to this band in 1999 and had my first exposure to their live recordings in 2003. A little odd at first but eventually I grew addicted to it.

This particular 3-CD set features two seperate concerts in Boston on the same night. Jim is drunk for both concerts and this adds to the bands spontaneity and charisma when performing live, and this is why I absolutely love their live performances; each concert has its own personality and style, depending on Jimbo and his particular state.

If you are a big Doors fan like me, then there is no reason to hesitate. Get this CD and hear, among other things, what Jim does to Light My Fire on the 2nd night, unbelievable!

Free Music Review: Jim being Jim
Hit: 5 Stars

Of all the live shows I have had the opportunity to listen to, this is my favorite of the Doors. A lot of the reviews complain about Jim slurring words and being out of control but this is much of what Jim became as he and the Doors evolved. You see all sides of Jim in this performance but the second show is not to be missed. The concert gives you a true feeling of what it might have been like to be there live and it provides a true feeling of the times. Jim talks about politics, democracy, astrology and you even here some of his poetic side. The sound of the band is quite clear on most of this recording and I have been happily cranking this one up on my morning commute the past few weeks. If you are a true Doors fan, this performance is one you do not want to miss.
