Free Music Notes for The Dresden DollsFree Music Review: Fun-Tastic Hit: 5 StarsI love this CD. Some of the songs are down right creppy. "Half-Jack" brings up an intersting question. "Coin Operated Boy" is a fun account of girl's dream. All i can say is this band is going to be BIG, certainly worth every penny
Free Music Review: good. Hit: 4 StarsOne of the better Cd's I've bought in awhile. While some of the songs run on too long, or a bit repetitive, its a very good CD. "Coin Operated Boy","Good Day",and "Girl Anachronism" stand out as the top songs from this CD.
As for the CD packaging it is very cool, it comes with lyrics (something that I see less and less of these days) and is presented in a very neat manner.
Free Music Review: A unique and interesting debut Hit: 4 StarsThe Dresden Dolls self-titled debut is a refreshing album that should please most people who are looking for something new and original. The Dresden Dolls consist of the very talented duo, songwriter Amanda Palmer (piano, vocals), and Brian Viglione (drums). They play cabaret music with a modern twist.
Even if you're generally not a fan of cabaret and/or avant-garde music, you may find yourself captivated with this album. Amanda Palmer has written a collection of very dark songs that create a haunting atmosphere that stay with you long after the CD has ended.
After one listen, I was drawn to this album, but this CD defiantly grows on you. The songs are somewhat off-center and therefore not instantly catchy and assessable. They are, however, quite mesmerizing and captivating. If you stick with this CD, the songs tend to grow on you with each successive listen.
One thing that really works for this album is its off-center pacing. The songs go from mid-tempo, to manic, to soft-spoken, to a fast pace, to mid-tempo and so on. The listener never knows what to expect. The album's haunting melodies and morose themes never loose momentum or get tedious.
If your looking for something offbeat, refreshing and original, the Dresden Dolls debut album is highly recommended.
Free Music Review: I usually don't write reviews but... Hit: 5 Starsthis cd is an exception.
A friend of mine introduced me to The Dresden Dolls and they've been one of my favorite bands ever since. It's so different from anything I've heard, yet familiar enough to be good.
The Dolls, in my opinion, are one of the best bands out there. I immediately fell in love with Amanda's voice and lyrics. The music as a whole is interesting, diverse, and can be very catchy (but trust me, you won't mind having it stuck in your head.)
Amanda and Brian are clearly very talented musicians with a certain chemistry that's very hard to find these days.
I'd recommend this for anyone who is a fan of rock music or anyone who wants something truly different to listen to.
Free Music Review: Untitled Hit: 5 StarsThere isn't a track I have skipped. Each song equally holds their own energy and power. In further researching Amanda and Brian's biographies I have increased my interest to paint the world with my own art.
I sing to Good Day really loud in my dorm room like its an anthem. Anachronism girl is in a world of it's own. And hopefully I don't have to be in the situation that the song Gravity talks about. Gravity doesn't play favorites with me.
The lyrics are very poetic. And they some songs take a little bit of thinking. But thats the greatest part of it. Once you find your interrputation of it it feels kind of like you own just a little part of it.
I've given the gift of knowledge of the Dresden Dolls Album to many friends. And they have been amazed as well by the beauty and the lyrics that were written as well as their instrumental talents.
I encouraged my friends to go to a Dresden Dolls concert as well. They said it was a very enlightening experience. And it "kicked ass"!
One day I hope to see them in concert. I'm in awe of Amanda and Brian. I want to give them a big hug and thank them for sharing their time and lives for their fans. they don't need luck to accomplish what they want. They have it all!
If you guys need another person in your video technical crew, I'm available. I admire the music videos you've all created and I'd love to soak in the knowledge and maybe even add some of my ideas in as well.
I hope to see them in concert sometime if they ever booked in Wichita, Kansas.
