Free Music Notes for The Dresden Dolls

Free Music Review: Wow...really fresh and a wonderful addition to my collection
Hit: 5 Stars

Another semi-random buy.

I found the website while searching for another group, and I watched the video for "Girl Anachronism" and I was just kinda like, "Wow, this is really new and unique!"

Armed with only a piano, drums and Amanda Palmer's beautiful vocals, you have "The Dresden Dolls".

Some of their songs bleed with their eccentricism, and satire.

If you enjoy new, strange music, I'd pick this up. The whole album kind of sounds like it's straight out of a broadway show. I could really see them making a musical to all these songs. That's what it sounds like. Cabaret-ish. Amazing stuff.

Definitely worth the money.

Pick it up today! Yes yes yes!

why the 38.99? if amazon's information is correct this is EXACTLY the same as the regular version. I'd at least expect an extra song or two in a disc that costs three times as much as the digipak.

Free Music Review: One or many listens
Hit: 5 Stars

Initially, it's very easy to be taken by the Dresden Dolls. Their quirkier songs such as the frenetic "Girl Anachronism" and the pretty oddball "Missed Me" are enough for one to show the CD proudly and say, "Look what I have!"

However, the initial listener may find only such things in the first half of the CD (up to "Coin-Operated Boy"), whereas the second half seems rather a let-down of similar-sounding slower songs. Luckily, there's hope: those same songs that may not appeal immediately tend to grow on you. Personally, I don't know where I'd be in the world without "Truce" and "The Jeep Song".

Not only is the music rather enjoying to watch, it tends to really connect with a lot of people. I don't know how many guys have told me they feel like they're expected to be Coin Operated Boys (one of the Dresden Dolls best songs and I think their most well-known), while anyone who has had an addiction to anything tends to rave about "Bad Habit". I can also honestly say there have been quite a few people I'm friends with whose very lives seem described in Amanda Palmer's verse. Usually someone identifying so closely to a single band's vision is kind of sad, but when you hear the power of the lyrics, you'll understand and probably be a bit more forgiving.

Enjoy it your first time. Love it every time afterwards.

Free Music Review: Highly Recommended
Hit: 4 Stars

This is an entertaining, slightly different kind of CD. The songs are consistantly good, the lyrics unique and the tunes are catchy without being annoying (with the exception of coin-operated boy... that one does get annoying).
Amanda Palmers voice is self admittedly flawed but somehow that adds to the charm of the music for me (perhaps not for everyone)
Definitely a CD I'm very glad is in my collection.

Free Music Review: This is a great band!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I pick this CD up after seeing that they were touring with NIN and firgured I would give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. A very original and refreshing debut. Its dark, honest and moody. Not for the mainstream but for those who really appreciate good music, its a must.
