Free Music Notes for The Drowsy Chaperone (2006 Original Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: What fun!
Hit: 5 Stars

A no-brainer delight that transports you to another time when musicals were uncomplicated and designed to delight with bright songs you could hum.

Free Music Review: The Drowsy Chaperone
Hit: 5 Stars

After seeing the show and loving it, I purchased the CD. It is simply wonderful. Am enjoying it immensly. So much so that we went to see the show a second time.

Free Music Review: Two Camps of Reviewers We Are!
Hit: 4 Stars

After reading several of these online reviews, it's apparent that there are two camps of reviewers: one group who has never seen the Broadway play and those who have. It's clear that those who have seen the play adore the CD because its a reminder of a truly great show. As someone who is not a fan of Broadway musicals, I went kicking and screaming to this one as a favor to a visiting out-of-town friend who wanted nothing more than to see a Broadway musical (also had to do the god-awful touristy, Times-Square scene and on a Saturday night to boot - does it get worse than that?). After accepting my fate, I went through the theatre doors placating myself with the promise of a 90 minute nap. Well, this Broadway Musical cynic was proven wrong. From the first moment to the end, I was absolutely mesmerized with this incredible show.

That being said, I now come to the point where I will try to be unbiased. If you haven't seen the show, the music by itself is good, some pretty good but not great - no particular standouts so you might want to listen to the music samples first. But...if you are in New York or plan to visit, run to see this show. I don't think I've ever been so thoroughly entertained, charmed and downright smitten (well, maybe with Smokey Joe's Cafe) with anything else I've ever seen. I would like to vote "Man In the Chair" for public office.

Free Music Review: Charming musical!
Hit: 5 Stars

The music from this show is very entertaining! I can listen to it again and again and not get tired of it. I suppose that I am a bit worn-out from dark and creepy straight plays and too-profound musicals. This show seems light-hearted and sweet. I would dearly love to see it on Broadway!

Free Music Review: Wow!!! An Amazing Home Run
Hit: 5 Stars

Not much you can say about "The Drowsy Chaperone" other than to say "buy it and enjoy the heck out of it." It's a spoof, a real spoof with an incredible cast, all of whom project their roles quite well to disk. I was fortunate enough to see it. Sutton Foster, always amazing, is at her awesome best. Her "Show Off" number is one of the funniest and most physicallhy demanding numbers I have seen in years. The Tony voters should once again hang their heads in shape over their inherent stupidity. The rest of the cast is equally good, and I found myself whistling many of the tunes over and over. It good, it's funny and it's listenable. I rate it as one of my better purchases of the past year.
