Free Music Review: Turn on, pump up and twitch...

1. WHO IS TYLER DURDEN? - A great song, especially in it's placing in the film, that feels like its gonna kick off but keeps it mellow, switching back and forth between almost piano-alike solos and that weird "wa-wa!". Delicious!

2. HOMEWORK - Great lift up from some of the quieter moments of (1), with a more slamming beat to begin which once again mellows into something just as great at the other end of the spectrum.

3. WHAT IS FIGHT CLUB? - A slower vibe that works well due to the feeling of a dark undertone (yes its only a tune, but you can hear the Dirty underbelly, trust me!)

4. SINGLE SERVING JACK - A lovely uplift from the previos three, although it keeps the bass to remind you your never out of the woods (what the hell is he talking about?). Goes kinda oriental part way through which is a fantastic lead into wonderful climax.

5. CORPORATE WORLD - What would the fight club soundtrack be without a cheesy mocking of the classic elevator jingle. So consumerist, so cheesy, yet still so cool and enjoyable, especially when the ditty drops and the grungey sounds return to stake their claim.

6. PSYCHO BOY JACK - Breaking in with a sound not too unreminiscent of a house alarm, this one soon hits off with a nice head-swinging (rather than banging) tune and then again u-turns into drum march alike accompaniment to what sound like strings. Very cool!

7. HESSEL, RAYMOND K. - A more or less jungle beat runs throughout that is a good resting point from all the more grunge sound as you can just relax through this one.

8. MEDULA OBLONGATA - AMAZING SONG! I first heard this on a magazine compilation CD and it was the inspiration for me to get the CD. This one twists and turns switching between grunge, drums, harp style music etc. effortlessly and truelly proves the genius of the Dust Brothers.

9. JACK'S SMIRKING REVENGE - A lovely calm tune that occasionally lashes out but mainly runs along soothingly , bookended by the now trademark griity sections.

10. STEALING FAT - Probably my favourite song that was the on the opening titles. After opening with a nice pre-amble, their is the sound of the LP jumping and the song bursts with god-knows-what instruments/mechanical do-ha-hickies! Fantastic song!

11. CHEMICAL BURN - Still in the gritty territory but this is a nice comedown from the excess on Stealing Fat. The title fits perfectly as the song is corrupted from it's melody by interjections of something similar to a cry of burning pain. The infection then fits in as the tune screeches and whines through the agony before residing to it.

12. MARLA - i love this song for the section taken from the "dream sex" scenes of the film, where the melody breaks off at a tangent from it's simple flow and you can imagine the inter-twining, all consuming writhe of bodies that it is empathsizing. Beautiful.

13. COMMISIONER CASTRATION - Probably the "least" on the CD, yet still a great song compared to most crap out today.

14. SPACE MONKEYS - A fun song for it's cheeky, circus twang, intermingled with the sound you'd expect to hear accompaning scamps at mischevious play.

15. FINDING THE BOMB - Great song that perfectly splices the tension, as given by the title, with a thumping beat you'll find your body writhing to (or is that just me? man I'm sad!). especially fantastic for the false end as the sound drops down and all that remains is the plink of a piano before...WHAM! back it comes leading to an inspirational, gospel-verging crescendo that lifts heavenly up through the scales till it's gone way beyond human-possibility.....then it goes a little further.

So take it or leave it, but if you leave it, BE WARNED, you have definitely missed out.
