Free Music Notes for Electric ArgumentsFree Music Review: Quite possibly his best solo album! Hit: 5 Stars
Yes, that's right. This may very well be his best solo album. Never has McCartney been more free, loose, and creative and developed an album worth of songs in which all of them are incredible and sound nothing like each other. His vocals? Just listen to the opening track. I challenge you to find another 66 year-old alive today who can sing like that. It is arguably his hardest rocking song since Monkberry Moon Delight off of his 1971 album Ram. The music? There are great rockers as well as awesome, more subdued tracks. McCartney plays all the instruments on the album, including lead guitar and drums, and plays them so well that you almost have to wonder why there was a need for George and Ringo in the Beatles other than to have musicians with whom to perform live. Highlights off of this album include "Nothing too much...," "Two Magpies," "Sing the Changes," "Highway"...you know what? I can't list the highlights because the entire album is one big highlight. Yes this album is that good! It should be the 2008 album of the year! Get it ASAP!
Free Music Review: A Masterpiece from 'The Master' Hit: 5 Stars
There is no question this album is one of McCartney's most unique. However, it finds him up to some of his usual tricks: Backwards masking and messages, unusual instruments, clever harmonies, brilliant melodies, wicked bass & guitar work, and all the elements that made his contribution to the Beatles so powerful. Listen to this album with headsets on and marvel at the creativity in the production and all of the unique elements going on in the mix. There are sound effects and wildly bizzare elements going on all over the place. What makes McCartney such a brilliant composer is that he paints his portrait with his music... Melodies flow from him like a waterfall and those who know what it takes to make a good record are left wondering how one man could have accomplished such a large body of work in one lifetime. This is a must have album for all Macca fans...or those looking to hear something different that changes from song to song and sounds like nothing you've ever heard before. Prepare to be shocked...in a very good way.
Free Music Review: Best Paul Ever? Hit: 5 Stars
I am 55 years old and came of age listening to The Beatles. They not only changed my young view of music and life but in retrospect changed the world view. Truly amazing shift politically, socially, fashion, and well just changed everything.
I've always favored John Lennon for his take no prisoners approach. A true artist by any definition. Paul was the guy who made him palatable to the masses but I digress.
This recording is what I imagine The Beatles would be doing if they survived intact today. This is a remarkable record!!!
Its void of commercial concerns and just a great artist doing what he does best... creating art from the soul.
Why have I not heard this before??
To the detractors I offer that Strawberry Fields was not well received when it came out but has proven to be a visionary piece of work. I do not suggest that this is on the same level but it comes close. We need more of this from Paul.
This is good stuff.
Free Music Review: Paul's Musical Mystery Tour Hit: 5 Stars
Not sure the casual listener will understand the sigificance of this release. Of all Paul's recordings this is the closest to a Beatle-like later 1/2 of 1960s production...less the big ballad. If Chaos and Creation was "stripped down" Paul and Memory Almost Full "proper" Paul and both very good CDs .. this is Paul "on steroids" and to me is a great recording and his most musical effort since Ram. More melody here than some of his peers have mustered in an entire career. Youth obviously deserves some credit here for creating an environment that inspired McCartney to create music as he would as a 25 to 30 yr old (while others his age have resorted doing duet albums or covers to chart). Clearly McCartney's prolific output has put him in a market over exposure position but make no mistake... this record stands out. For John Lennon fans (which I am) ..this would have been John's favorite Paul Album. Appreciate Paul McCartney while he is still around.
Free Music Review: This is arguably Paul's "Smile" Hit: 5 Stars
I just purchased this CD and am listening to it as I write. The thought which comes to mind is this music is of similar significance to Brian Wilson's recent completion/updating of SMILE. Like SMILE, the album is a solo adventurous, mature work by one of the most accomplished song writers of the 20th century. Eclectic but familiar, the songs on this set are refreshing in that they are original without sacrificing substance, if that makes sense. The song "traveling Light" is very Brian Wilsony to my ears. The next track, which is playing now, utilizes a variation of the bass riff he played on Lennon's "Come Together". I am sure I will listen to this collection for a long time and it will become part of my permanent collection. In summary, I have the feeling I always did during the '60s when a new Beatles album came out. For that I am eternally grateful, Paul. Adventurous, creative, solid stuff. A real gem and a contender for album of the year.
