Free Music Notes for The Forester Sisters - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Have had this album for years Hit: 5 StarsI am replacing many of my LPS with CD's (if available). I'm glad this
one was!
Free Music Review: They Won Me Over Hit: 5 StarsI grew up during the 30's and 40's, so I listened to the Andrew Sisters. During to 50's I listened to the Chordettes and the McGuire Sisters. But none of them compares with these Forester Sisters. Not only is their harmony beautiful, it is DISTINCT. By that I mean when you listen to them you can actually pick out every voice. Having sung in, and listened to, vocal groups all my life, being able to hear the bottom voices is rare. Of course you know they're there for they make up the harmony, but it is difficult to pick them out. This is not true of the Forester Sisters. Their overall blend is comparable to the immortal sound of the inimitable Mills Brothers, but the great pleasure that comes to a vocal group enthusiast, such as myself, is when you can hear every voice that makes up the harmony. That's the Forester Sisters.
But one does not have to be a vocal group enthusiast to enjoy the singing of this quartet. You can forget their technical proficiancy and just sit back and listen to them sing. I promise you you will go away singing their songs. If an artist can cause you to do that they're worth listening to. I have this and another of their recordings, "Greatest Gospel Songs." As a result I thought they only sang religious songs. But I still enjoyed their singing, even though as an African American I sang gospel and jubilee songs in the storefront churches of Brooklyn. It just goes to show you that good music -- especially that of the human voice -- transcends time, race and culture and touches every one.
Enough already. Buy the CD. You'll it.
Free Music Review: efficient service Hit: 4 StarsI was well satisfied with the speed of delivery of this(and another CD that I had ordered at the same time)item. Also I am always very well satisfied with the packaging of this and other items I have ordered.
Free Music Review: Top-notch country group! And a nice collection of hits Hit: 5 StarsI agree with another reviewer that way too many hits were left off this collection. After all, the Forester Sisters had 15 Top-10 hits during their stay on the charts, and only ten songs are here. Plus, there are lower-charting hits that are worth owning. "Men" and "Mama's Never Seen Those Eyes" (a #1 hit) are too delicious not to be here. But what is included is pure gold. "Lonely Alone", "I'd Choose You Again" and "I Fell In Love Again Last Night" are among my favorites -- and I was surprised how much I enjoyed "Don't You", a top-10 gem written by Juice Newton's musical partner Otha Young (he also wrote "The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)", one o fthe best country songs ever). All the songs here are great; I just wish there'd been more. But backl in the '80s, it was standard for a CD to have only 10 songs.
The Forester Sisters' perfect four-part harmony is gorgeous to listen to, and all these songs are solid country. Sure, these songs were recorded in the '80s, so there are some synth licks here and there, but overall this is classic coountry music by a superbly talented group of ladies.
Here's hoping Rhino or another company decides to release a Forester Sisters anthology that includes more of their biggest hits.
Free Music Review: The Forester Sisters Hit: 4 StarsThis CD shows their great harmony on some lovely songs. I prefer the slow songs, but for those who like something a little upbeat, there are a few of those, also.
