Free Music Review: Not as bad as you are led to belive
Hit: 3 Stars

Lets get this straight. The Frey is very much a rip off of so many popular piano/bands that seemed to be started by Cold Play on to Keane. well, Keane is pretty darn good. They Frey is no threat to them. The lead singer's voice is god-awful and will tend to irritate you (but he can hit the hight notes very true). Some of the songs are pretty darn good, most notably Vienna. The production is first rate, very polished. True many of the songs seem to sound the same. But the melodies are pretty good. So in all, not as bad as some reviews would lead to think.

Free Music Review: Potential that's still getting into its groove
Hit: 3 Stars

After a good listen, it's pretty clear that the Fray have more substance on their debut CD that just "Over My Head (Cable Car)" and the album's title track. "She Is" is an upbeat and glossy cut with the band's now-signature piano pop gliding along in the background, while "Dead Wrong" mirrors that buoyancy with just the right amount of honest poetic pessimism.

But some of How To Save A Life's act is pretty hard to swallow, especially the slow piano ballad "Hundred" which seems to go on forever. However, followed by the fantastic tracks "Vienna" and the aforementioned "Dead Wrong", most of its weary aftertaste fades away. Lead singer and pianist Isaac Slade's voice is hard to describe, but when it isn't abrasive, it's calming. Regardless, the band as a whole has settled on a successful ground that lends itself to the different types of songs they try here. Even "Over My Head (Cable Car)" and "How To Save A Life", the current two hit singles and arguably the best tracks on the whole album, sound notably different from each other. Some have mentioned that all songs on this CD sound the same, which is mostly true, but there is much more lyrical variety than musical that sets these tracks apart.

There is no doubt that big things are in store for the Fray, and though their craft isn't always perfect, as a debut CD this is solid and sufficient. It's well-produced and smoothed out nicely, at times unoriginal and lackluster, but at others stirring, and at all times a firm view of what could be to come.

Free Music Review: Impressive
Hit: 4 Stars

Although I don't think this album is outstanding, I do think it is a step in the right direction. I have been waiting for a band like this to come that is a bit reminiscent of 90's alternative bands such as counting crows and goo goo dolls. However I do not think that they will ever live up to what "crows" and goo goo dolls acheived. Yet they are certainly a step in the right direction. The Fray is just a refreshing change from what is currently on the radio. I think that if bands brought back the 90's sound, added a little twist or hook onto it, to not completely copy the 90's formula, they would be extremely succesful.
Alright well back to my review of this album. The Fray are definently worth checking out. Radio gems "How to Save a Life" and "Over My Head (Cable Car)" are filled with catchy riffs and lyrics. This album has at least 5 other potential singles although I think for now it will stick with two.
I think "Little House" , "Trust Me", "She is", "All At Once", and "Look After You" would definently add to the hype that "Over My Head (Cable Car)", and "How To Save A Life" have created.

Overall I think that the Fray have discovered something and if they stick to this formula they will definenlty continue their already stellar career.

Free Music Review: You have GOT to be kidding me???
Hit: 1 Stars

I even wrote this on the Fray's website...First U2, then Cold Play, now The Fray, two bands ripping off the original sound of U2...but doing it EXTREMLY poorly. This band is horrible...their lead singer sounds like a wolf howling. There's nothing to this group...what ever happened to talent? Musicians who play instruments...well. First this James Blunt idiot who sounds like Eric Cartman singing Sailing Away on that HORRIBLE Beautiful song and now this. Somebody put on Led Zeppelin II and take back music from those morons in suits on Madison Avenue. SOMEONE come out with a band where talent matters. I really didn't think anyone could be worse than Coldplay...I guess I was wrong.

First Pearl Jam, then Creed and every other crappy band that sounds JUST AS BAD...giving the legends in Pearl Jam a bad name.

This group, like every other these days will have 15 minutes in the sun...one good touring summer and will then be done. What ever happened to a band that would be remembered in 5 years?
