Free Music Notes for How to Save a LifeFree Music Review: What a wonderful change Hit: 4 StarsThe good thing about The Fray is that they maintain their adult alternative vibe while still staying popular mainstream. Which is great because the music is enjoyabl to all. The 1st three songs incl She Is, Over My Head, and How to Save ... are all chart toppers. But the others like Heaven Forbid etc are in my opinion all Top10ers!
Buy the album, they deserve the credit
Free Music Review: Somewhere Between Hit: 5 Stars"You right where you are
From right where I am
Somewhere between
Unsure and a hundred
And who's to say it's wrong
And who's to say that it's not right
Where we should be for now"
~Hundred
I've tried listening to this album on numerous occasions and it never sounded as good as when I feel a little angry, disappointed, slightly annoyed, emotionally confused, just had a fight with the person I love most... and generally in one of those "can't get out of this pouty princess mood" moods.
As a mostly happy 5-star type person, in general, a bad mood can put me right over the edge of reality itself. This album helps too soothe my tired soul back into a place of peace. I'm not sure why, but by the time I hear "Look after You" I feel like I'm back to almost normal. "Hundred" has that deep breath of cold winter air feeling mingling with a dark melancholy that just rings the sorrow out of you. It does remind me of Coldplay for some reason.
All the danger, drama, hurt and melancholy on this album is surprisingly refreshing in the end. If you have been hearing "How to Save a Life" on the radio all the time, this album really expands the experience. "Trust Me" is soft like a feather brushing across broken glass and has a rugged maturity within the lyrics. "Vienna" also has lyrics that say exactly what you sometimes want to say:
"Maybe in five or ten yours and mine we'll meet again
Straighten this whole thing out
Maybe then honesty need not be feared as a friend or an enemy
This is the distance
And this is my game face
There's really no way to reach me
'Cause I'm already gone"

Free Music Review: Bland and Uninspiring Hit: 1 StarsI just don't understand the hype associated with this label. The two songs they play over and over and over on (Christian!) radio are about as lyrically uninspiring and bland as they come. The lead singer's voice sounds like he's overdosed on sedatives as he mumbles from one line to the next. "With eight seconds left in overtime, she's on your mind"??? Huh? I've heard funeral music that has more life than this.
Free Music Review: A Wonderful Pop Album Hit: 4 StarsI rarely listen to the radio and normally rely on my friends to pass me along mainstream music that doesn't come from Coldplay or a few other artists I have come to love and happen to enjoy commercial success. I first encountered the song "Over My Head (Cable Car)" months after it was released and it soon became one of those songs I couldn't name but knew I loved listening to. The same thing happened with "How to Save a Life" (which actually now plays at my office multipile times a day). When I finally was able to put a name of a band to these two songs I decided to buy the album and I must say my work day has never been the same. The Fray's album does not suffer from many of the problems that other pop albums do in being uneven and only containing one or two good songs. Instead, this album shines all the way through and is in essence, an album full of pop songs that you can sing along to. The writing is neither derivative or childish and it makes for a mature and fun album. For those of you who like Matchbox 20, Coldplay, and Live (their first two albums only), this band will keep you smiling for months.
Free Music Review: Above Average Hit: 4 StarsAfter listening to this album several times over, I find it to be a soulful and underrated peiece of music. The Fray started out with their mega hit Over My Head(Cablecar) and those with working stereos will tell you that the song was played on almost every station, and for good reason. An album soon surfaced with more soft rock/pop that would spawn the other hit How To Save A Life. Much like their predecessors the ever popular Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty with their soft beats and heartfelt lyrics, the music is enough to leave you humming it long after the song has finished. Some other stand outs on the album are Dead Wrong, Vienna and She Is. Although it is not the most earth shattering material to be put out there, it is worth the money if just for the simple fact that it's relaxing to listen to and leaves you happier. The bottom line is those looking for an alternative to most of the so called "music" out there, this is it.
