Free Music Review: The definitive western score on the definitive soundtrack CD
Hit: 5 Stars

In 1990, Ennio Morricone's legendary score for the classic western "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" was released on CD - with half the tracks of the Italian CD. While the Italian CD has been available for some time now, it has been pricey and quite hard to find. Now, thanks to the Special Edition DVD release of the film, Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for the film has been re-released on CD, complete and remastered. Quite possibly the greatest western score ever (although Morricone's "Once Upon a Time in the West" is a close competitor), it is easily the most famous and referenced. It has such a lonely, powerful, and wandering feeling to it; basically, it completely captures the western feeling. The album begins with the unforgettable title theme and moves through a variety of adventurous and - what shall we call it, "westerny"? - pieces, including "The Sundown" (which was featured in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill: Vol. 2"), "The Death of a Soldier" and the classic, suspenseful finale, "The Ecstasy of Gold". Essential for Morricone fans, western fans, and any one who even begins to call themselves a western collector.
