Free Music Review: Tasty! Like a very apetizing Morsel!
Hit: 4 Stars

The Good, The Bad & the Queen is very very tasty and that is good enough for an avid listener such as myself. I know tasty applies better to food but I am running out of adjective and thought: why not? There are moments in their music that one has no other choice but to marvel at how beautiful their music is and how it is composed. I know very little about the members or their other works but once again I want to thank Henry Rollins for introducing them to me in his IFC show, they played this haunting song and next thing I knew I was in amazon and bought this CD. Direct Hit, Highly enjoyable (and I stress the word Highly!!) and overall another welcome addition to my now resurgent CD collection, what a treat for sore ears! The singer, which I vaguely have heard is a well known musician has a great voice and the band behind is truly truly Tasty! What more can I say? It probably deserved a 4.5 but have no doubt I will be paying close attention to their talents. Recommended dosage before listening: 1 Happy Mood and an open mind and this band will take care of the rest! Tasty!

Free Music Review: DM/DA strike gold again
Hit: 4 Stars

Early last year, an album came out produced by Danger Mouse that I got the day it came out and became a huge success. This one came out earlier in the year even than that last one - and it's a good thing. I listened to it before going to bed last night and fell asleep to the deep grooves - the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I didn't want you to set your expectations too high before you'd heard it. If they say it doesn't sound like Gorillaz, they're kind of lying, but only because it sounds EVEN BETTER. Seems like Damon Albarn was trying to get some kind of sound in his head out on CD since the first Gorillaz album, or maybe the Mali Music CD, and this is the best he's done yet (but then again, I voted for Gore and then Kerry - if you like Bush and Blair, you'll probably get a sour taste in your mouth). Buy this album, put it in on a good stereo and turn it up. Now I'm going to my room to listen to it on headphones again =)

Free Music Review: Don't forget the 5th All-Star (4 Stars)
Hit: 4 Stars

Truely this is rock music's version of dub. Mellow and melancholy, this is more a disc for a rainy afternoon than for getting your heart rate up. While many people seem to have taken issue with this I find it to be quite an enchanting effort. As a previous reviewer said, if you are expecting anything like the individual efforts of any of the band members you will not be getting it.

Indeed, the person who seems to have the most influence on the album is top notch hip-hop producer Danger Mouse. These hip-hop sensibilities have been expertly crafted into this 'rock' effort (if you can really call it that) and is the better for it.

In the end, this album sounds fairly original and coherent for being an All-Star cast of individuals. Worth checking out to be sure...

Free Music Review: The term "Grower" defined
Hit: 4 Stars

Somewhere along the way, labels and/or critics turned the term "grower" into a perjorative term. Meaning - yeah, we all know it sucks, but we'll try to get you to listen to the album 10 times in hopes that you find a song, or a lick, that's worth recommending.

And then this album comes along, and "grower" as a term is reclaimed. This album wasn't written to produce an obvious single, and you probably won't find this on sale at WalMart two years from now, but what you will find - should you give this a chance - is an album well worth your time and made with care. This easily will make the top 10 of all "music experts" who fancy British music, Blur, and music made for the sake of an album as opposed to iTunes.

Free Music Review: Ok..Ok..Ignore the rap sheet.
Hit: 4 Stars

See. This is a prime example of how we hold artists back with "good ol' days syndrome". I can explain this record in one fell swoop: If this were a debut recording by a unknown band with unknown members, people and press would be gushing all over this.
I didn't care for Blur and Verve was ok in my book, but remained on the periphery due to its short lifespan, and Simonon hasn't done anything since The Clash. Since the preconceptions were subdued, I listened to the record the first time with an open mind. I wasn't waiting for that Blur blitz or that Verve hook or that Clash swagger. As a result, I have a record that is truly engaging and beautiful, especially if you've ever been to London.
