Free Music Notes for Good the Bad & The QueenFree Music Review: Albarn can do no wrong Hit: 4 Stars
I've been a blur fan for years and I'm always interested in Damon's side projects. As soon as I found out he was doing this I had to run out and buy it (never knowing what to expect from him). I was quite pleased with it. It is more blur than gorillaz, but I wouldn't even classify it as Blurish because this album (apart from D.A.'s vocals) is nothing like blur. It's very mellow, which I like because I'm a mellow kind of guy. It also seems very bass driven but not dancy. It's a mish mash of all sorts of sounds but Albarn and his crew bring it together and make lovely music with it. If you are a blur fan you'll probably like this album. If you are a gorillaz fan you may not.
Free Music Review: Absolutly Brilliant!!! Hit: 4 Stars
I have to admit that I was slightly skeptical about the newest "British Supergroup" (only Kiam Gallegher is missing to complete an emaculate lineup)- the hype surrounding the lauch has so often in the past been such a disappointed BUT the CD exceeded my wildest expectations. Listen to it completly before disecting each song - you can actually see the "story" unfolding. Definatly ranks high on the best of the last 12 months.....NOT Radiohead yet but could reach similar status should they show consistency and mange to harmonize diverse talents featured even futher. GO ORDER NOW !
Free Music Review: Damon's prolific-ness continues... Hit: 4 Stars
As if the output of Blur wasn't enough, then there was Gorillaz, the Mali Music cd, and now this. Definitely its own type of sound, maybe a touch of Gorillaz in "Northern Whale", but then again, it could've been on Blur's "Think Tank" cd. Otherwise, it's definitely its own animal. The cd is great as a whole, but the standouts for me were the title track, along with "Northern Whale", "History Song", and of course, "Herculean". Definitely one I'll be listening to quite a bit.
Free Music Review: The Good, The Bad and the Queen: Mostly Good Hit: 4 Stars
I bought this 1) because I was following the career of ex-Clash bassist Paul Simonon, and 2) I was convinced by all the rave reviews the album was receiving, including several best-of-'07 lists...It was not what I expected; I was not familiar with Blur's work, so I was expecting a more punk/reggae-driven, Clash-like sound. But I do enjoy it, with it's dreamy quality, and an intensity that builds to the intense final track. It's grown on me each time I've listened to it.
Free Music Review: Does anything bad EVER come out of England? Hit: 4 Stars
This is a very experimental cd, and NOT the Gorillaz. That being said, it is a very good album. Alburn has one of those voices that just draws you in, and this is no exception. It almost sounds like a soundtrack to events that haven't happened, what I mean by that is, it really paints a picture about what the music is about. I'm proud to have this in my collection.
