Free Music Notes for The Harder They Come (1973 Film)

Free Music Review: Essential for any music collection.
Hit: 5 Stars

This soundtrack is a great reggae sampler. It is a must for any reggae collection. Anyone, fan of reggae or not, would find something to appreciate on this great album. It is just about the best disc to throw on when you're sitting in the sun and just enjoying life. It's suprisingly cohesive, when you take in to account that it is a bunch of different groups. Buy this CD before your next camping trip, you won't regret it.

Free Music Review: An early reggae gem.One of the best rock soundtracks
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an early(pre-Marley's invasion)sampler of superb reggae music. This is primarily a Jimmy Cliff vehicle-the catchy title track, the oft covered and touching Many Rivers to Cross, the superb Sitting in Limbo. The album is beautifully rounded off with the excellent contributions of Desmond Dekker,The Maytals,The Melodians... An underrated classic.

Free Music Review: Say hello to musical history...
Hit: 5 Stars

And an endlessly listenable compilation of the real masters of reggae/rocksteady. The songs from this film inspired everyone from The Clash to Stevie Wonder. THIS ALBUM CONTAINS NO BOB MARLEY!!! And that's a good opportunity to branch out and really dip your hands into a unique culture, and a worldwide musical phenomenon.

Free Music Review: Possibly the best record album ever
Hit: 5 Stars

There is an incredible amount of consistency and coherency in this album, it's a narrative rather than just a collection of songs. I mostly listen to punk rock and rockabilly, but I just can't stop playing this. And just so you know, many of the songs here are actually ska and rocksteady, rather than reggae.

Free Music Review: A re-discovered favorite
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought the vinyl in the early seventies and, after not listening to it for a long time, recently saw Jimmy Cliff in concert. The sold-out concert audience sang along with the songs from the album. He was still so great that I bought the cd, and my children love it too.
