Unlike his 1952 recording of the work, which was studied and technically brilliant, Heifetz took a personal, Romantic approach in this recording. When a master such as Heifetz has a strong, clear vision of a work of this magnitude, the result can be astounding, as it is here. While the performance is somewhat outside the musical bounds of the Baroque era, this performance highlights the fact that Bach was a universal composer, whose music transcended the era in which he lived.
