Free Music Review: Classic Cd
Hit: 5 Stars

This cd is a classic, and there are reasons why. First, it contains five songs that are sonanamous with Jimi Hendrics. These songs include "Purple Haze," "Fire," "Hey Joe," "The Wind Cries Mary," and "Foxy Lady." The five songs listed above are songs that Jimi Hendricks is known for, and they made him famous, which leads to... the next reason.
This album released Jimi Hendricks onto the world. Upon it's release, Jimi Hendricks was held in such high regard for his guitar playing. People in 1967, and today regard him as the best guitarist ever. The types of songs he does on this cd, and the musical genres he covers are astounding. From the blues-rock of "Purple Haze" to the soulful playing of "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Hey Joe" to the jazz of "Third Stone from the Sun," this cd encompasses a lot, and Jimi definitely proved himself on this one. This is a great debut by an amazing artist. If you're a fan already, or if you're new to Jimi Hendricks, or if you're a rock fan in general, go out and by this cd.

Free Music Review: TRY EXPLAINING JIMI TO YOUR 13 YEAR OLD KID
Hit: 5 Stars

Jimi Hendrix was born to innovate the electric guitar. Other than Les Paul, no singular figure has pushed the tonal possibilities of the instrument more than Hendrix. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED was released 39 years ago, on primitive 4 track analog recording/mixing boards, yet still sounds fresh and unlike anything else. There are some early single B sides included in this release (RED HOUSE, CAN YOU SEE ME, 51ST ANNIVERSARY, STONE FREE)that weren't included on the original album, and it's nice to have them on this disc, which had a short running time. A few of the tunes have been played to death by radio (PURPLE HAZE, FOXEY LADY, FIRE, HEY JOE), but have sounds and tones that were never heard before this album. Other songs like LOVE OR CONFUSION, I DON'T LIVE TODAY, THE WIND CRIES MARY, MAY THIS BE LOVE and the rest are so full of innovation and great band interplay that it may take several listens to fully be able to take it all in. Good headphones are a must, just to be able to hear the exquisite layering of instruments. Hendrix always claimed he was doing "sound painting" and, although some folks didn't understand what he meant, one listen to this classic slice of unlimited guitar possibilities clearly show how gifted he was. As good as ARE YOU EXPERIENCED is, it was only scratching the surface of a true musical revolutionary. Each sucessive album gets more complicated arrangements, room to stretch out, and more tonal variations. This is a great place to begin tracking the rise of the guitarist that changed the scene. (BTW, my 13 yr. old didn't get it until I showed him some video of Jimi playing live. Then he asked for a guitar for Christmas).

Free Music Review: One of the finest albums of all time
Hit: 5 Stars

Jimi Hendrix was one of those rare, brilliant artists who manage to create something that is massive and intensely powerful yet at the same time feels entirely personal. "Are You Experienced?" began Hendrix's brief yet truly remarkable career. On this album he blended genres, introduced new techniques and effects, crossed racial barriers and left the guitar gods of the day astounded and perhaps a little fearful. Though Hendrix is one of the most technically gifted and innovative guitars of all time, his music is also deeply moving. He can bend one note and knock the wind out of you. Jimi Hendrix is truly a justifiable legend.

Free Music Review: Not enough Stars in the Heavens for this Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to this album for close to 40 years, and it's is as fresh and new as the very first time I heard it. Of all the songs, LPs, and CDs that I've listened to in my life, only two albums have re-arranged my DNA on the first listening; "Are You Experienced" is one of them (Sgt. Peppers the other). This album is a work of genius, an album so perfect that mere words fail to do it justice. If you've heard it before, then you know what I'm talking about. If you've never heard it before, then it's about time that you become experienced. Hendrix will show you the way.
