Free Music Notes for SawdustFree Music Review: Fantastic, must for Killers fans...but wish they could've perfected the songs Hit: 4 Stars
I was a huge fan of Hot Fuss, turned off by Sam's Town, but was excited about this album. There are some killer tunes here (no pun intended) but sometimes, I wish the production was better. At times, it felt like the melodies within the songs didn't flow together and it could've been so much better. I was often floored by the melody of the song ("Glamourous Indie Rock n Roll") but wished the lyrics/topic would've been different. The potential for perfection of these songs is huge, but it leaves me wanting to make a few changes here and there. My favorites include:
Tranquilize (different but strangely catchy)
Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf (couldn't stop listening to this song for days- best of the album, one of my fav. B-sides of all time)
Sweet Talk (could've been a single)
Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll (could've been such a classic if the topic was worthy)
The Ballad of Michael Valentine (could use more tweaking)
Daddy's Eyes (good stuff)
Mr. Brightside (the intro to this re-mix is spine-tingling but it does go on too long)
Bottom line- I love this cd...but with a little more fine-tuning, it could've been up there with the best of U2 or Coldplay...too many "could've"s.
Free Music Review: I am so happy this was released Hit: 4 Stars
You know how it is- Target has one bonus track on an album, Best Buy has a different one and then there are those songs you can only get from an import single. It's so hard to get your hands on those b-side songs.
The Killers really gave us fans a nice treat with compiling all these tracks on one album.
For me, it was important not to have my expectations set too high, as these songs are essentially leftovers from their other albums, predominantly at least. Still, most of the tracks on here, a few fillers aside, are outstanding and original. It's fun to see that The Killers were a bit more experimental with their sound and genre this time.
Overall, definitely worth the purchase!
My favorite songs are Tranquilize, All The Pretty Faces and the live version of Sam's Town which is amazing!
Free Music Review: A nice gift for us fans Hit: 4 Stars
So far The Killers have made their mark on the mainstreem music circut. What better way to keep themselves on top than this new release 'Sawdust'. While there is no actual new material on this cd, this band wanted to give the fans a little taste from their archives before their new cd drops next spring. It's not as catchy as the songs on their two studio albums, but The Killers did something that not many bands actually do. They put all their B-sides as well as 3 rare songs on including the dance mix of Mr. Brightside which I have been looking for for such a long time! It's definitly a nice add to the collection and I am very eager to see what the third album has in store.
Free Music Review: Killer is The Word!!!! Hit: 4 Stars
Being a big fan of both Hot Fuss and Sam's Town,I knew I had to check this one out. From beginning to end, there is something different for all Killers fans. Tranquilize with Lou Reed and Shadowplay start the album off strong.Sweet Talk,Where The Boys Dance,Move Away and on and on.The album rocks!!!! One of the better B-sides albums you will find around. If you like The Killers, check it out. You might find something you like more than from the two mentioned albums.Go get it,what are you waiting for???
A solid 4 stars for real good leftovers.
Free Music Review: An example of their skill Hit: 4 Stars
This album shows the different varieties that the Killers have under their belt. Romeo and Juliet is reminicent of Bob Dylan, Shadowplay kind of sounds like She Wants Revenge (although I see the music video in my head every single time I hear this song)and an interesting remake of their hit song Mr. Brightside. I almost believe that this album should have been a major release. Flowers is the new Freddy Mercury, minus the jock jams.
I'd buy it again.
