The Kinks were an incredible band, and this particular CD is the best overview of their career; unlike the other best-of-sets that have come out over the years, this one uses the original versions of the songs, not live ones made after the Kinks went to RCA in the early 70s. This also is 2 1/2 hours of music that follows the Kinks from 64 to the late 80s, allowing you to get a fairly complete take on their career; this one deserves to go in your collection, and here is hoping a box-set gets made and released in the US someday!Free Music Review: Masterful Collection!

I recently saw Ray here in Chicago for the Other People's Lives tour and decided that I needed to update some of my old scratchy records. This collection pulls it all together very nicely. Some nice notes by a David Wells (not the pitcher) and some very cool pix. The sound is superb! Flawless! My only complaint is the actual CD case. It's very flimsy and it needed to be replaced upon first opening. Those Brits....Free Music Review: What? No Destroyer in a so-called "ultimate" collection?

Sorry, but any Kinks collection that purports to be "ultimate" better have one of their most well known hits -- "Destroyer." I can't think of any good reason why this song is not included and it baffles the mind why it hasn't been.Free Music Review: Good CD

I love this CD. this CD is one of the few CDs I have noted, that has the hit "Victoria" and it seems like a pretty good recording of Lola in the studio version. the price is O K. as long as one shops around for the best price. this is a good CD to shop around for. the kinks were a fantastic british band whom ray davies with his surroundings told us in his great english slang everything he was feeling and what he felt needed to be said and not to be worried of the crictal response the kinks made some fantastic songs some hillarous "plastic man" "apeman" but the under-tone subject of the songs are hard hitting..
of course you've got the singles and songs that lamented the name of the kinks into the lights of "classic rock band"
you've got the infectious bass line in "sunnny afternoon"
"you really got me" the first ever heavy metal song perhaps?
"dedicated follower of fashion" the physc-delic carnaby street song
the beautiful dave davies solo single "death of a clown"
"waterloo sunset" the song that spoke to us british
and you american too
"lola" the song about a trans-sexual that's a favorite at any respecting karaoke night
"victoria" the classic track of the masterpiece concept album
"the decline and fall of the british empire"
the kinks well ray and dave davies are and were fantastic songwriters to be up with jaggers and richards and lennon/mccartney and plant/page
